I use all 5. Gotta have dem toanz.

Same here. On a Gibson, I'm almost always on the bridge pickup, though.

I posted a thread once, either here or in EG, wondering what some of the earliest examples were of the 2/4 tones, but I didn't really get much feedback on it.

I think the 5-way switch came along in the 70's, iirc (maybe earlier on modded strats?), and that people balanced the switch to get those sounds before that, but I don't know much, beyond that.

I'm even thinking about going with a 3 positions switch. What about you ?

You're missing out on a whole world there!

Playing a Strat with a 5 position pickup switch is what convinced me to get a coil-split switch in my Les Paul copy.

I've tried several mods on my LP; coil-split, parallel / series ...
I quickly put it back to stock specs.

When I actually play my Strat (which is almost never - TELES {censored}ING RULE), I pretty much stick to 1-3-5. I havean additional switch to activate my neck pup so I can do 1+5 or all three pickups on.

But yeah, Strats suck balce.

It's cheesy crap

All it does it put the pickups out of phase with one another so that the midrange frequencies are cancelled out

People like it so much because its basically "scooping" the mids

The pickups are not out of phase.
