Members Unreachable
I want to buy a cool cat, but kinda undecided between these two. Does anyone have any experience a/b'ing the two? Does the TOD have as much gain as the Drive? Too much drive a bad thing? I play a lot of Incubus/Mayer/Hendrix stuff.
Members BoredGuitarist7
Drive is less transparent, obviously. Fatter, grittier, more SRVesque to Classic Rock imo. The Transparent Overdrive is more like adding some hair to your sound.

The drive would be great for alternative rock rythm and lead, but could the TOD get that too? I kinda want a TOD for it's Timmy-like capabilities. Members BoredGuitarist7
That's what the Timmy does imo. Adds some hair to your sound. Great if you are satisfied with your current setup.

Members jcksn1234
have both. my tod has a good bit of gain on it and the drive is like a step up. i like both, but the tod just sounds better to me. the tone on that is much more pleasing than the drive. but as warioblast say get both. they are so cheap. Members willburford
get both. the drive is great but only from 0-3 in the drive range, IMO. after that it just turns to fizzy crap. But from 0-3, it sounds great! I want the TOD to compliment it.

Members triviani
I had the drive, and didn't like it. A bit gritty.
Members Mind_Riot89
The TOD is great for adding an overdrive valve amp type sound, perfect for the cleaner tones Einziger uses live.
Members echodeluxe
get a klon?
Members MathiasWilliam
TOD is much nicer, my mate has it andi have the drive. They're both awesome, but the TOD just sounds more natural and warmer
Members silver-seven
I bought the Drive, TOD and the Distortion off ebay for $40, just to see what they were like. They all sound good. I put together a small spare board and leave it around anywhere I might be practicing. I like all of them, but if I could only have one I would go with the TOD. Members thisISjoel
I haven't played the TOD but the drive is pretty fat.
Members b_nehpets
they're bother pretty good... and a grand total of 60 bucks new, or 40 bucks in these parts... get both and then sell one.
Members WWW
Everyone will have different opinions on this, so I'm with the others who say get both. They're should be cheap enough for most to justify. I prefer the sound of the drive over the TOD, but that's my opinion. Ever since I bought the drive my TOD is mainly used as a clean boost.
