The Lou-Dog

I love this {censored}en album

It's one of the best records ever waxed IMHO. Came out my junior year of high school, and had a HUGE influence on me as an engineer. Roger's work on those Steely Dan records - the cleanliness and tone of the tracks, the precision, the fidelity - just amazes me. I had the honor of knowing him, and he was just an incredible guy... it's hard to overstate just how good he was at recording.

The songs and musicianship on Aja aren't bad either. ;)

Haha yeah, Walter and Donald have a fair bit to do with that as well, on the Classic Albums for this album, everyone talks about their meticulous attention to detail.

The production is totally tops.

Wayne Shorter and Steve Gadd's playing on the title track is {censored}en sick!

Hell yea Philip, i knew you'd like a bit of yacht with your rock!

Can't really avoid it Lou-Dog -- the time period (1975 - 1984) includes my high school years and into my early 20s, so I was very well exposed to it, and yes, I do like a lot of it. I'm a HUGE "Dan fan, and I also loved the Doobie Brothers, among others. That Ambrosia track I posted is very under-rated IMO... and Toto IV is a great record too.

And you just have to love the guitarists they used on those Dan records... Dean Parks:

(this one of Larry's is one of the best solos ever waxed IMHO...)

All of this (and lots of Steely Dan plus a Donald Fagen solo mention) and no sign of SD's Gaucho? Possibly the greatest Yacht Rock record (in a good way) ever.

"Hey Nineteen" should be the standard bearer for the whole YR thing. I really love that whole record - Really well recorded and produced and just absolutely faux-funky (in a great way). It sounds like New York meets Miami circa 1980...

Love it (for real - Just bought a pristine vinyl copy a few weeks ago).

Now back to the new Mastodon. It's alright...
