Members eric
Eric, that's a remarkable list. What's with having owned and sold a Motif ES6, ES7, and ES8? Thanks for noticing that oddity. Here's the story behind that. Around the time that my Roland RD600 was getting too beat up for more gigs, I tried to slim down and bought a Yamaha ES7 right when this was a brand new board. I gigged with it for about a month and decided that I did not like the synth action vs. the Roland RD I had been using. So I took it back and got the S90, which I still use today for gigs. The ES8 was something I bought from fellow forum member The Pro a few years ago. I kept it at home and used it a bit, but decided I did not need it and it was too big for gigging, so I sold it. The ES6 was something I snapped up on a closeout at GC with a 15% coupon and I paid about $800 out the door for a new in box ES6. I actually kept it for about a year or more and then sold it to buy other stuff, making about a $300 profit. I bought an XS7 in a similar bout of trying to slim down from my S90 and it did not stick (I still love having 88 weighted keys for live gigs). I'm currently in month 2 of my trial period with a Kurzweil PC3 76 and not sure if it will stick.

Members Gribs
Nobody asked about effects lists or other equipment yet. Fact of the matter is - if you are "into" an area, you tend to explore it by picking up a lot of gear/manuals/books/info on that stuff. There's no better way to see what works for you than by purchasing it and trying it out in your specific environment. Other than the gear equivalent of a lending library, there's no real way to truly know. Yeah, I know. My list of guitar gear that I have owned is pretty huge, especially if you start getting into amps, effects, and modeling gear. I think I have sold about a half dozen guitars and I own about a dozen now. I think it is probably the other way around for amps (sold about a dozen own about 6). I am not so sure if it is true now, but for a while Ebay really was working almost like a gear lending library for me - make a little here, lose a little there. A lot of guitar gear depreciates considerably in value from new to used, but as long as used is in really good condition the values tend to remain pretty stable. Having a good feedback rating helps too.
