List Every Key/Synth You've Ever Owned...

Eric, that's a remarkable list.

What's with having owned and sold a Motif ES6, ES7, and ES8?

Thanks for noticing that oddity. Here's the story behind that.

Around the time that my Roland RD600 was getting too beat up for more gigs, I tried to slim down and bought a Yamaha ES7 right when this was a brand new board. I gigged with it for about a month and decided that I did not like the synth action vs. the Roland RD I had been using. So I took it back and got the S90, which I still use today for gigs.

The ES8 was something I bought from fellow forum member The Pro a few years ago. I kept it at home and used it a bit, but decided I did not need it and it was too big for gigging, so I sold it.

The ES6 was something I snapped up on a closeout at GC with a 15% coupon and I paid about $800 out the door for a new in box ES6. I actually kept it for about a year or more and then sold it to buy other stuff, making about a $300 profit.

I bought an XS7 in a similar bout of trying to slim down from my S90 and it did not stick (I still love having 88 weighted keys for live gigs). I'm currently in month 2 of my trial period with a Kurzweil PC3 76 and not sure if it will stick.

Nobody asked about effects lists or other equipment yet. Fact of the matter is - if you are "into" an area, you tend to explore it by picking up a lot of gear/manuals/books/info on that stuff. There's no better way to see what works for you than by purchasing it and trying it out in your specific environment.

Other than the gear equivalent of a lending library, there's no real way to truly know.

Yeah, I know. My list of guitar gear that I have owned is pretty huge, especially if you start getting into amps, effects, and modeling gear. I think I have sold about a half dozen guitars and I own about a dozen now. I think it is probably the other way around for amps (sold about a dozen own about 6). I am not so sure if it is true now, but for a while Ebay really was working almost like a gear lending library for me - make a little here, lose a little there. A lot of guitar gear depreciates considerably in value from new to used, but as long as used is in really good condition the values tend to remain pretty stable. Having a good feedback rating helps too.

In somewhat chronological order:

Hammond L100 organ-cut my teeth on this, since I was about 6-7 years old. We "chopped" it at some point.
Sound City electric piano (we called it the "Sound {censored}ty")
Electro Harmonix mini synth
Fender Rhodes stage 73
Unknown Italian cheesy combo organ. We spray painted it black and it was drying in the driveway, and was run over by our drummers brother.
Casio 1000P "programmable keyboard" I used this for organ sounds for a while.
Yamaha upright piano (not for gigs!)
B3/122- not mine but I played it/ hauled it for a couple years
Juno 106- still have
JX10- still have
Emu Proteus 1
Rhodes VK1000- gave it to my friend, it still works
Roland JV880 module
Alesis S4 module
Alesis DM5 module- still have
Roland VK7 organ
Yamaha P50 piano
Nord Electro 73- still have
Nord Lead 2- still have
Studiologic 88 key controller
Yamaha S90ES- still have
Emu MK6- still have

Gear I had:
Ensoniq VFX
Ensoniq VFX-SD
Ensoniq SD-1 32 (basically the above VFX-SD sent back to the factory and an SD-1 32 voice motherboard put into the VFX-SD)
Roland XP-30
Roland Fantom
Roland Fantom X8
Roland V-Synth XT

Gear I have:
Roland Fantom G7
SH-201

The only regret I have is not keeping the modified VFX-SD. Probably one of only a handful modified. Loved the sound too.

I thought we were restricting ourselves to hardware. I have a big pile'o softies. They have a way of accumulating.

You are from Rottenchester? I grew up in Webster. Did we have this conversation before? Short term memory is the first to go...
