Not including groove things like the Raveolution or Electribes, nor sound modules like Proteus or Yamaha MU-50, nor my main workhorse, the RS7000. Just including keyboard synthesizers:Excellent synths:Oberheim Matrix 6 (proper, and I mean proper, old-school synth sounds...think Pink Floyd '75-'77, Gong '72-'74, Vangelis in Bladerunner...this synth is the most convincing I've heard without having the originals themselves...although I admit my experience is barely scratching the surface of the synths that are out there)Roland Alpha Juno 2 (so inspiring to play!)Yamaha AN1X (my only synth where the aftertouch still works properly) Novation Bass Station (wish I'd kept it...powerful and brilliant interface...I won't get better bass sounds out of my current synths)Very good synths: Yamaha DX7 (definitely worth keeping, but then so many synths are...it made way after I'd used it for an album of music...was very happy with it)Korg M1 (how some people can call this beast 'not-a-synth' is beyond me, it has loads of editing parameters)Good synth:Solton MS5 (borderline synth...more of an arranger, really...this has the best strings and wind samples of this list tho')Average synth: Korg Microkorg (liked by many, but I never enjoyed its too-clean plastic sounds...and certainly not its mini-keyboard) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
