+1 If you can put your hands on a Fulltone Soulbender for the cheap, I'll say do it! The Mid knob is very useful and it does a good job for what you are looking for.

I hatehateHATE that more fuzz pedals don't come with a mid knob. Stupid scooped velcro that makes your guitar disappear as soon as you stomp on it.

I had an EQ pedal set to a mid-hump paired with pretty much every fuzz I've owned. mad.gif

Eq after the fuzz right? I have mine after my dirt. I'm going to try an upper mid hump tonight and have the other guitar a tad scooped.

tonebender imho depends if you play humbucker or single coils... liked it more with my les paul and for the strat i used to use a big muff (but this got lost easily if not on the bridge pu position)

now i love my octophant and it really cuts through

a ehx graphic fuzz is very versatile and you can eq it how you want

The scooped sound of a fuzz is a feature to some guitarists. It is a desired sound from ye olde days. So, boosting the mids (before or after, different sonic results) or maybe have the second guitarist back down their volume during your fuzz-laden solo.

I never got along that well with my Fulltone Soul Bender. Everyone kept telling me how well it cut through the mix, but for some reason it just never gelled with me. Because of that, I'd be more likely to recommend (like others have said) a Rat, or a fuzz with a clean blend could help you retain some of your mids. You're still going to have a tough time cutting through with another guitar player though. Either way though, I think I may sell my Soulbender soon if something doesn't click for me

It's not a very good clone then. tongue.gif

Does it have a master volume control?
If you turn the gain up (with the volume set to taste), then it reaches a point towards the top of the gain range where it transforms from a boost/driver into a great fuzz.
