Members rushtallica
If you have a really, really bad snoring problem you may have sleep apnea, which actually can be dangerous over the years. Even though many people snore a lot I'd still recommend checking with a doc on that one if you have insurance if you have really bad snoring and/or possibly feel tired a lot even if you get enough hours of sleep. One of my best friends came over and was crashed on the couch while I was using the computer in my living room, and she was having the major snoring exactly the same way. I only mentioned what I did in case it's something chronic and something you may want to tell a doc about next time you happen to see one. From my understanding Reggie White (of Green Bay Packer fame) died of apnea but also apparently had heart problems, so it's just something worth finding out more about, IMO. Should stop your snoring Yeah, I've tried them, but it's wierd having a band-aid on your nose (pulling your nostrils apart) all night long. I think I'll just snore! Members Chrisjd
Sleep on your side, NOT your back. This always helped me and my dad. I had my tonsils out about 9 years ago, and that basically killed my snoring.
Members Urban Ghandi
Try shoving some Manicotti shells (dry) in both nostrils...should keep them wide open and stop you from snoring!
Members rvschulz
my wife has this. it is quite serious in some cases like hers, where she does not get ehough air/oxygen and does not sleep well. then she gets into a lack of sleep/bad sleep routine. this went on for years. she did not believe me. i finally convinced her to go to a sleep specialist. she almost never gets into REM sleep. she got a CPAP machine and it helped tremendously - but she quit using it. she would rather have a {censored}ty health life than wear the mask sleeping. needless to say, i sleep many nights out of earshot of her. when her sleeping wrecked my sleeping, i would wake up in a rage in the middle of the night. i never was physically violent, but i was emotionally distraught and enraged. if she would have woken up pissed and challenged me, i'm sure i would be posting this from prison. good luck. earplugs worked for me until they started causing ear infections and tinnitus. (smoked LOTS of pot for about hte last 7 years however nothing for the last year and a half) You don't have to be overweight to have sleep apnea. It's all about your airway anatomy. When you go for a sleep study, the doc interpreting it looks at how many events (stopping breathing or shallow breathing) that you have per hour of sleep. If it's more than 5/hour you have obstructive sleep apnea and should probably be treated. Treatment options include CPAP, surgery (only effective about 1/3 of cases), oromandibular appliances (bite guard), and weight loss when applicable. If you have sleep apnea and leave it untreated, you leave yourself at risk for developing high blood pressure and possibly diabetes, which are both major risk factors for stroke and heart attack down the road. Most snoring occurs at the level of the soft palate (the soft part of the roof of the mouth). If breathe right strips don't get rid of your snoring, that's probably why. Yup, I am by no means obese (189, 5'10, work out a lot) and I have to wear a CPAP. What an awful device. Regardless, its better than dying (stroke, heart attack, falling asleep at the wheel like I was doing) and all of the secondary symptoms (acide reflux, constant buzzing headaches, hypertension, irritability, no patience, can't concentrate, waking up from a "dead sleep" gagging which is a nightmare, no patience, weight gain... the list goes on). If you think you may have apnea, get a sleep study (these also sucks, but being a grown up has a lot of "suck", it seems ).
