Members baldbloke
Well, if Poppytator can have a popular music thread, I can start a folk music thread. I grew tired of pop music and rock music many years ago. For a long long time I was in the wilderness of silence. It has it's advantages. (No gas.) Then I discovered modern day british folk music. My musical world is enlightened. For your delight and education, Ladies, gentlemen and Poppy I give you one of the most talented modern English folk groups around. Show of Hands entertain us with Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed: [video=youtube;1u2ill7yOZo] So, what folk music gets your toes tapping? Post a video. Enlighten us, please. Members Gary Blanchard
There is a lot of good folk music out there. Some of the newer stuff borders on pop music, but I'm open to a lot. Of course, I am at heart a Pete Seeger acolyte. Members baldbloke
Winners of the BBC radio 2 young folk awards 2009. Megan and Joe Henwood. These kids are under 19 years old. I think it was Megan herself who wrote this song. [video=youtube;U-ZRckIslQ0]

Members Gary Blanchard
Required reading I own it and have read it more times than I can count. I also recommend: I have had the pleasure of spending a little (too little) time with Pete Seeger and it is an experience I will never forget. Members Gary Blanchard
yea, I need to get those two The Protest Singer is rather lightweight compared to How Can I Keep from Singing and doesn't offer too much new or different. The best part of The Protest Singer is the complete transcript of Pete HUAC testimony. That said, I am happy to have both.
Members baldbloke
That was nice, great music, but it made me feel old. "That plugged in guitar sounds crappy. Take the hardware out of your mouth. Get off my lawn." Agreed. I had only ever heard this song on radio. I had imagined a "Nice girl next door with talent" picture. When I looked up youtube so as to post a vid clip here my jaw dropped when I saw her lip adornment. Yuk.

Now, how would someone from your side of the ocean get to know these folks? Are they well known over there or what?
