  1. (In ur archives, diggin' up old threads.) Dig mah Eastman! Hoping to bring back this sticky.
  2. Your "favorite" guitarists, oh my peoples. Today my favorite guitarist is my little Brother. That guy can totally own a chart, cold. He's got that Joe Pass walking bass with comp style dialed - any key, any tempo. The first time I caught him sneaking on my guitar his reaction was, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I'll put it back!" My reaction was, "Never mind that, what the heck were you playing???" He proceeded to show me chords I'd never imagined. The guy is made out of music. Come to think of it, scratch all of that, I hate his guts.
  3. Hall of Flamer Bump! My first post in HCAG and my 5,000th in the larger HC community are on this thread. Currently my favorite guitarist is Eddie Lang.

Six instruments, all solids, no sigs. I thought my beater mando (RM-50) might be a lammie, but apparently it's not.

After re-reading the OP and deciding that mandolins weren't nessecarily excluded, I had my alt vote for Maple. Six instruments and no hog other than two necks. I should probably remedy that...

Yar. Mahogany gunna get the most votes no doubt. But hey. I still wanna see how many non-mahogany people out there! You're going to miss a lot of them (us) to the equal amount and others option.

There was a time when I'd tap cigarette ashes in there as if it were an ashtray. My mando has several fortune cookie fortunes in there. Whenever I seek the wisdom of the cookies I turn it over and shake it like a magic 8-ball.

It's only because of the different weights! I see what you did there. And I in your general direction.
  11. +1 100% A quality thread in a quality body of work.

Nice guitar! If I'm reading you correctly, you're thinking about putting the ball end on the saddle side of the bridge and running it back, out, up and over the back of the bridge. I'd be concerned about the string uploading (or lifting) and splitting the bridge at the string holes (like that poor guys Ovation last week.) If you still wanted to try it, I'd recommend doing just the B and/or D strings to see if it made any difference. Maybe think about putting a strip of thin, tough tape on the bridge to keep from marring it up. Happy experimenting!
  13. Speaking of "Dawgs," I've got a mix of five Golden Gate and five Dawg mando picks that I'd happily send to any new mandolin pickers. PM me an address and I'll put 'em in the mail next week. "Pick it like you mean it."
  14. Woot! Thanks Ethan. I thought about PM-ing you for the answer but never got around to it.
  15. Clip 1 sounds noticeably better to me. But that's listening in an untreated room (read: my office,) with "Low"sumer gear (Firebox, BX5s) and un-schooled ears.

Very wise move! If possible, post pix and clips. If not, have fun playing your new guitar. Congrats.
  17. Not to be pedantic but a viola is a musical intrument. Voila (pronounced vwa-la) is a French word that means "see," like when it says "lo and behold" in the Bible. A columnist for a local (St. Louis) computing monthly once spelled it "walla" so yours isn't quite the most egregious example I've seen but it's still annoying. Be annoyed if you wish, but that was a joke.
  18. Thinking: Wha? That's a familiar name. Ethan, competely by Googlestance, I just not five minutes ago read your paper on software copywrite protection and I couldn't agree more. I have been going thru hell lately, simply trying to use a product I already paid for. Tech support's having a weekend and I'm just about ready to go look for a crack. Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled topic. Sorry. But thanks for the good read.
  19. Depp should stay away from Chocolate movies in general. He's been there. It's over. Can't wait to see he and Keef go at it, tho'. A friend of mine tore off a good rant one night: "DeCaprio, he's always wet and crying. Gilbert Grape: wet and crying, Romeo and Juliet, he's wet and crying. Titanic? Hell, he's drowning and crying! You call that acting?" Maybe you had to be there...
  20. I care about the Chicks only to the extent that their success pisses off their distractors. Kinda like the way Vanessa William's fame has tickled me over the years. Still, I couldn't name a song by either of them.
  21. Just wondering if this is worth messing with. I'm strictly a "hobby" player, fwiw. Particularly I'm wondering how the piano and/or organ sounds stack up against some of the free VSTis, like Mr Ray and Organized. TIA.
