  6. Tech 21 Reboots the SansAmp PSA for Their 30th Anniversary Considered a staple in professional recording studios, the SansAmp PSA rackmount was used on countless major releases, film scores, and worldwide tours by such artists as Muse, Rammstein, Paul Stanley, and John Entwistle. In a time of every-other-month upgrades, the SansAmp PSA was modi- fied only once since its introduction in 1993, and primarily to add hardware features. With 2019 marking their 30th Anniversary, Tech 21 stepped up to the challenge of streamlining its architecture into a compact, easily portable pedal. The SansAmp PSA 2.0 offers the same operational simplicity, essential functionality and dizzying versatility as its predecessor. It also features a Performance Mode which turns it into a 3-channel stompbox. Combining a warm, all-analog signal path for punchy, responsive, organic sounds with digital recall, the SansAmp PSA 2.0 bears all of the original controls: Buzz, Punch, Crunch, Drive, Gain (formerly Pre-Amp), Low, High, Level and Trim. With 128 memory locations, storing and recalling programs is simple. You don’t need any special training or a degree in physics to operate the unit. When you turn a knob, you hear the difference immediately --in real time. You just set your tones and push the Save button. In the studio, you can record direct, enhance existing tracks in mixdowns, as well as add interesting touches to any instrument, including drums, horns and vocals. Live, the SansAmp PSA 2.0 can be used as a pre-amp direct into a power amp with guitar or bass speaker cabinets, as a “monster direct box” to a P.A. system (or both simul- taneously), and as an outboard processor. So today I'm very happy to announce that we have reached a major milestone in our company, when we can make Elk available to everyone through the open source release.” - Michele Beninicaso CEO at Elk (former MIND Music Labs) Elk Audio OS is officially endorsed by Steinberg , owners of the VST format, is supported in the VST3 SDK and is fully compatible with plugins written in JUCE , making Elk the perfect solution for companies and makers alike interested in developing new digital hardware instruments. 14. Dear Reality releases major multichannel update to dearVR PRO all-in-one spatializing solution for 3D audio with Plugin Alliance “It’s completely brilliant, utterly intuitive, excellent.” - Golden Globe- and GRAMMY® Award-nominated film and classical composer, record producer, and arranger Simon Franglen (Avatar, Titanic, Michael Jackson), 2019 SANTA CRUZ, CA, USA: Plugin Alliance, supporting all major plugin formats and uniting some of the best-known international audio companies under one virtual roof, is proud to announce availability of dearVR PRO V1.4.0 — a major multichannel update to spatial audio technology-specialising German software partner Dear Reality’s all- in-one AAX-, AU-, and VST-supporting spatializing solution for 3D audio, extending its state-of-the-art binaural and Ambisonics encoder to support 26 multichannel output formats from 5.0, 7.1.4 to 13.1, intended for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, or MPEG-H — as of November 7... dearVR PRO duly delivered on its creators’ cutting-edge vision of providing the best-sounding 3D audio technology to all kinds of next-generation audio production environments upon its original release in late 2017. Fast forward to today’s major update and V1.4.0 ensures that Dear Reality and its premier product rightfully remain at the forefront of spatial audio technology, easily meeting all of the professional requirements for any VR (Virtual Reality) or AR (Augmented Reality) production. Put it this way: all surround sound specialists can continue to use the plugin in their particular workflow — whether working with a more standard 5.1 system or a more elaborate setup with more speakers. Simply select one out of 26 different loudspeaker formats and immediately start mixing in 5.1.4 or 13.1, for instance. Want to deliver a mix in multiple formats? No problem! dearVR PRO users can easily start mixing in Binaural (2CH), TOA Ambisonics, or 7.1.4, and at a later stage export the mix in 5.1 Film, for example, by just changing the OUTPUT FORMAT. For those who do not want to invest in a physical 13.1 loudspeaker setup, choose the Binaural output to prepare the session before easily switching to the final loudspeaker format. Furthermore, users of dearVR PRO V1.4.0 can also benefit from Dear Reality’s brand-new VHSP (Virtual Height Speaker) simulation technology. This combines sophisticated room and distance simulation with groundbreaking virtual height speaker perception for flat setups like 5.1 or 7.1 in an unprecedented manner. Want to deliver 7.1.4 and 7.1? Easier done than said! Start mixing in 7.1.4 using the four real height speakers, then change the OUTPUT FORMAT to 7.1 and benefit from the virtual height simulation. Additionally, all 46 vivid VIRTUAL ACOUSTICS environments within which dearVR PRO users can place an object’s sound have been optimized and adapted to simulate smoothly when working with all multichannel loudspeaker outputs. On top of that, all feature true-to-life 3D imaging and depth. Creatively choose from variously-sized rooms suited to the most commonplace production needs — from a small Car to a huge Cathedral. Each environment is instantly and independently recallable per plugin instance, letting users place each object’s sound in a different space. It is also possible to change the shape, dimensions, and texture of the selected space by adjusting its size, damping, balance of early reflections, and diffuse reverb. REALTIME AURALIZATION mode allows adjustment of the distance between the listener and the four walls (LEFT, RIGHT, FRONT, and BACK), ceiling (TOP), and floor (BOTTOM) within the selected space. Moving the sound results in the delay times and directions of arrival for early reflections bouncing off those virtual boundaries being altered accordingly — just like in real-world environments. Extraordinarily, an OCCLUSION control even enables users to adjust the sound of an object being blocked by another virtual object in line of sight to the listener! It is also possible for dearVR PRO users to effectively place their listener in the centre of the sound. Simply drag the mouse around using the plugin’s XYZ pad to position a track’s sound anywhere in a 3D soundstage — be that behind or in front of the listener, closer, or farther away. Also, radical performance enhancements applied to the V1.4.0 update lead to a performance increase of up to 60%, making dearVR PRO the all- in-one solution when working with large channel counts in complex situations. Saying that, those performance enhancements enable users to run more instances of dearVR PRO than ever before. Better said, dearVR PRO V1.4.0 is truly a state-of-the-art audio processor, allowing any multitrack session to be mixed in 3D. FENDER® LAUNCHES NEW AMERICAN ULTRA SERIES INTRODUCING STATE-OF-THE-ART ENGINEERING, ELECTRIC GUITAR DESIGN OF THE FUTURE American Ultra Delivers Industry Firsts: The Only “Modern D” Neck For Guitar and Bass, New Body Contours and Ultra Noiseless™ Vintage and Hot Pickups For Enhanced Playability HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (November 5, 2019) — Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) today announced the launch of the American Ultra Series, the most-advanced modern guitar from Fender. An evolution of American Elite – Fender’s premier electric series that launched in January 2016 – the Ultra Series boasts all-new modern features, state-of-the-art craftsmanship and nuanced design. Luxurious, sleek and cutting-edge, this series sets a new industry standard for precision, performance and feel with Ultra Noiseless pickups and Fender’s fastest-playing necks. Created for a wide range of today’s highly-skilled modern artists, session and working guitarists, this series also offers a new body design and contours – a pivotal moment in Fender history, decades since the last significant alteration to the iconic Fender Stratocaster or Telecaster body shapes. Since 1946, Fender has embraced artist and player feedback as the core driver of its process, leading to decades of subtle yet crucial innovations. These thoughtful changes in design and technology can’t always be seen by the naked eye, but are meaningful to artists who crave products that evolve with the times. As younger players create new sounds, meld existing genres and push the limits of what a guitar can do, Fender products also continue to evolve. “The American Ultra Series is our most advanced series of guitars and basses for discerning players who demand the ultimate playing experience in precision, performance and tone,” said Justin Norvell, EVP of Product at Fender. “Blending state-of-the-art engineering and nuanced design to provide a high-performance experience for today’s player, American Ultra is the next chapter in Fender’s legacy of cutting-edge innovation. American Ultra has truly been decades in the making and is a result of our tireless commitment to meet the needs of today’s working and touring guitar players looking for a modern feel and tone.” Inspired by Fender’s never-ending pursuit to equip players with the best tools to create, record and perform music, American Ultra is Fender’s most advanced series of instruments – providing the ultimate in precision, performance and tone. The series answers the call from discerning players looking for modern advancements to help them create at the highest level. One of these elevated features is the all-new “Modern D" neck with a compound-radius fingerboard, smooth American Ultra satin back finish and extremely rolled edges. The result is a neck that’s slim and fast – yet ergonomic and comfortable – for blazing solos and easy comping without sacrificing tone and resonance. Other key features include: New body contours: For next level comfort and playability, Fender redesigned the body contours of its most iconic models for the first time in decades. New back body curves offer hours of gigging comfort while a super-sculpted neck heel gives players unparalleled access to the upper register of the fingerboard, resulting in better accessibility and comfort. Noiseless pickups: American Ultra instruments feature two types of innovative new noiseless pickups: Ultra Noiseless™ Vintage pickups deliver authentic Fender single-coil sound – without hum. Ultra Noiseless™ Hot pickups offer modern performance and classic tone so you can launch your amp into overdrive. HiMass™ bridge: With lots of metal, lots of mass and a cool modern look, the HiMass bridge on American Ultra basses delivers serious sustain, precise intonation and rock-solid tuning stability. Double Tap Humbucker: The American Ultra HSS Strat features a brand-new Double Tap Humbucker with an overwound coil to ensure matched volume between pickups in coil split mode. Redesigned preamp with active/passive switching: A redesigned preamp on American Ultra basses features three bands of active boost/cut for sweeter highs, focused mids and lots more usable bass. For a more traditional tone, the redesigned pickups can also be used in passive mode. New colors: American Ultra instruments are available in a variety of colors, including: Cobra Blue, Mocha Burst, Texas Tea, Arctic Pearl, Aged Natural, Plasma Red Burst and Ultraburst. Advanced electronics: All American Ultra guitars feature a treble-bleed circuit to preserve high-end response at any volume – plus advanced wiring options that activate different high-performance features depending on the model. 20. SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — With the introduction of the Gold-OC6, Cort Guitars expands its flagship acoustic-electric series by reducing size. This latest addition to the Gold Series offers a smaller body with the full, rich tone that has earned this collection its marketplace recognition. Players will find that the Gold-OC6’s slimmer body and 43-mm nut width increases playing comfort for smaller hands, while delivering a larger sound than its compact size suggests. The Gold-OC6 starts with a classic OM (orchestra model) cutaway body, a style that was initially developed in the 1920s. Straight out of the box, this guitar seeks to capture the “holy grail” of vintage tone. The solid Sitka spruce top has been treated with a special ATV (Aged to Vintage) torrefaction process, which enables this brand-new guitar to have the big, open tone of a decades-old acoustic. The all-solid construction includes solid African mahogany (okoume) back and sides that are bright yet natural with a strong and warm midrange. Hand-scalloped X-bracing on the inside and black binding with triple-ply purfling on the outside reinforce the design. The sonically enhanced UV finish is strong and scratch-resistant, yet lightweight to improve the natural acoustic resonance of the body. Like other guitars in the Gold Series, the Gold-OC6 is built with Cort’s DoubleLock neck joint, which is a tight-fitting traditional dovetail reinforced with an added bolt. This feature maximizes the transfer of tone and enhances the guitar’s natural resonance. Meanwhile, the 20-fret mahogany neck (palaquium), with 25.3-inch scale, has been reinforced for added rigidity and stability with two walnut inserts. Macassar ebony is used on both the fretboard and bridge, with genuine bone used for the saddle and nut. Gold custom mother of pearl inlays, an abalone rosette, and deluxe vintage gold tuners perfectly complement the Gold-OC6’s high-end features. The guitar is available in a Natural Glossy finish. The Gold-OC6 is ideal for strumming, delicate arpeggio picking, and single-note soloing, and the Fishman Flex Blend built-in pre-amp is more than capable of picking up these nuances and superbly translating the guitar’s natural sound. The system combines an under-saddle pickup with a condenser mic to provide even the most demanding acoustic players the tones they desire on any stage. From its thoughtfully constructed design to its carefully articulated electronics, the Gold-OC6 offers a level of dynamic responsiveness that’s a joy to play. This guitar comes road-ready, with Cort’s Deluxe Soft-Side Case, which combines the best attributes of a hard case with the flexibility of a padded gig-bag. His red customised Gibson ES 335 not only gave him his signature sound but was also a part of his iconic stage personality.” --Leo Lyons (Ten Years After co-founder and bassist 1966–2013) Born in Nottingham, England, Alvin Lee began playing guitar at age 13 and formed the core of what would become the band Ten Years After by age 15. Originally influenced by his parent's prolific collection of jazz and blues records, it was the advent of Rock ’n’ Roll that truly ignited Lee’s interest and creativity with guitarists like Chuck Berry and Scotty Moore providing his inspiration. With Lee as guitarist, singer and songwriter, Ten Years After (TYA) first toured America in 1968 at the invitation of the legendary Fillmore promoter Bill Graham. American audiences were immediately captivated by the group’s innovative mix of blues, swing, jazz and rock alongside Lee's distinctive, soulful and rapid-fire guitar playing. Alvin Lee’s groundbreaking, virtuoso guitar performance at Woodstock festival in 1969--captured live on film in the documentary of the festival--remains a gold standard of influence today for many guitarists and continues to introduce Lee to new music fans all over the world. 24. November 6th 2019, Wavesfactory, Artà, Spain, the company behind Mercury Piano, Spectre, Trackspacer and a host of other unique Kontakt instruments has announced Cassette. Cassette is an audio plugin that emulates the sound of vintage cassette tapes and decks. It has been carefully modelled after exhaustive analysis of audio examples recorded into real tapes. As a result, Cassette imparts the same sound and behaviour of the original units. These include a different frequency response, frequency dependent saturation, high-frequency compression, hiss, asperity noise and much more. Reproduction systems will also induce their fingerprint: wow, flutter, random high-frequency loss, crosstalk between channels, stereo unbalances and other. All of these little quirks and random fluctuations have been modelled meticulously. Cassette imprints instant nostalgia, movement and analog feel all around in its path. Speaking about the inspiration behind the instrument, Wavesfactory founder Jesus Ginard says; “This is my tribute to the sound that shaped my childhood. I grew up listening to them at home, on the car or on a walkman. They are not perfect, in fact, they are far from perfect. That’s what I love about them. Cassette has been designed to be fun, pleasant to the ear and true to the medium” ONE PLUGIN - 4 CASSETTE TYPES Cassette has modelled the four cassettes types available. Each one delivers different sonic characteristics. I: was the standard and most compatible tape format. Featured a ferric-oxide coating (Fe2O3). First appeared in the 1960s. II: with a chromium dioxide (CrO2) formulation was introduced at the dawn of the 1970s featuring an undeniable increase in high frequency response. III: living a short period between the mid 70s and early 80s, the ferro-chrome (FeCr) never made it into the golden era. IV: metal-formulated hit the scene at the end of the 70s. Features firmer bass as well as louder high frequencies. Changing tapes will have an effect in the frequency response of the plugin but also in the saturation, compression, static noise (hiss) and dynamic noise (asperity noise). RANDOMNESS UNDER CONTROL Cassette offers under the hood control of many aspects of tape emulation they include; Tape: Control how much of the tape effect is applied including frequency response, saturation and more.
