Members Funderbunk
The problem with gold hardware is that the frets are always going to be silver Unless you use gold fretwire. Interestingly enough, the gold fretwire that LMII sells is actually between nickel/silver and stainless steel as far as hardness goes...

Members Ancient Mariner
Chrome would be fine on that red SG, but the white one next to it looks way cold.

Members cincy_cosmo
There are so many more metal colors than Chrome and gold and black. I wonder why hardware manufacturers aren't making at least some copper, silver (which IS different than chrome), brass and other colors, including anodizing to red blue etc. Us guitarists are not an imaginative lot. Members curseoftruth
My Epi Moderne has gold and I think looks great with it. So does my Les Paul Custom (Epi). I was going to chrome out my Les Paul Custom but was not cheap (Sykes clone it).
Members JC777
I've got 4 guitars with Gold HW, including a LP Custom. Out of those 4, only one would look right to me with chrome and it's a 2 tone sunburst. I don't understand the hangup around here with gold HW. The only argument against that I've heard is that once it's worn it looks bad. I tend to agree, so I replace it once it's that worn.
Members d_dave_c
gold hardware was meant for blueburst quilt tops. 'cause anyone who would want one deserves the other.

Members mrmikers
I have no problem with gold hardware on some guitars. From simply a color scheme point of view, gold just goes really well with some colors.
Members -Assy-
I like gold on a matte wood finish, but only if its the right wood, i love it on walnut, and it definitely goes with paduak.
Members inkblot
The Lifeson 355 is the only guitar I can think of where chrome/nickel would truly be unacceptable.

Members Karma1
When I bought my used 92 Les Paul, it came with all black hardware and black open coil pickups. I thought it gave the guitar too much a Darth Vader look and I eventually swapped it all out for gold, and in my opinion it looks way better now. I bet the intonation on those is great :poke:I think a green to black burst needs gold hardware, and that anything else on that just looks weird. Here are some guitars I've had with gold hardware:
