That trem impalement story is true ... BIG OUCH. It happened on the 'big band' tour in, IIRC, 1988 -- and it was on a Floyd fitted to a Clapton sig Strat. PT was windmilling with such force that he drove the bar right through his hand, fainting dead away from the pain and shock. He was rushed to hospital even as the rest of the ensemble were finishing the encore. By some miracle, he managed to avoid damage to any nerves or tendons and was back onstage (albeit heavily bandaged) a few nights later.
