No.

But that, "pulling something" line reminds me of when I saw Pete performing on some TV show a few years ago, and he was jumping around like a man half his age.

At the time I remember thinking, "Careful there Pete, you might break a hip".

Nah, he plays that strat now, and he was quoted in his prime as saying it's impossible to smash up a fender. I think there's an ancient video of him trying to smash a strat and it taking so long that it kind of become embarassing.

I think the guitar in question is a Tele, and this can be seen in the feature motion-picture, "The Kids are Alright".

He stated in the press and on his website that he had been engaged in research for A Different Bomb (a now-abandoned book based on an anti-child pornography essay published on his website in January 2002) and his autobiography, and as part of a campaign against child pornography.[29] The police searched his house and confiscated 14 computers and other materials, and after a four-month forensic investigation confirmed that they had found no evidence of child abuse images. Consequently, the police offered a caution rather than pressing charges, issuing a statement: "After four months of investigation by officers from Scotland Yard's child protection group, it was established that Mr Townshend was not in possession of any downloaded child abuse images." In a statement issued by his solicitor, Townshend said, "I accept that I was wrong to access this site, and that by doing so, I broke the law, and I have accepted the caution that the police have given me."[30] As a statutory consequence of accepting the caution, Townshend was entered on the Violent and Sex Offender Register for five years.[31][32]

A later investigator stated that he was "falsely accused".[33] After obtaining copies of the Landslide hard drives and tracing Townshend's actions, investigative journalist Duncan Campbell wrote in PC Pro Magazine, "Under pressure of the media filming of the raid, Townshend appears to have confessed to something he didn't do." Campbell states that their entire evidence against Townshend was that he accessed a single site among the Landslide offerings which was not connected with child pornography.

I honestly wasn't trying to start a flame war. I just thought it would be a fun poll.

Personally I would like to see it. He's the ONLY person I would want to see smash a guitar anywhere. At the super bowl I think you have to go all out and that is his signature stunt.

I think even he thinks it's played out.

It would be frickin' cool if he DID smash it. Or, like, if he set a small explosive charge inside his guitar so that if he can't smash it, he could at least blow it up.

Better question might be, though, what's the setlist gonna be?

I remember reading somewhere that he was doing the ol' windmill on a Strat and managed to impale his hand on the whammy bar. Sounds painful, and probably why it's dangerous to windmill on a Strat.

As far as smashing, probably not. While it was cool when he did it many years ago, it looks sad and passe' these days.

I'd like to see him crack open an Epi Special II so we could see the laminates fall apart. Imagine him smashing it and it breaking directly in half on the body...the back separates from the front and two guitars appear! What a visual trip that would be!

Yes, because someone doesn't have a NAMBLA membership card means there not a pedo. Glad we cleared that up. Now we can let all the sex offenders that aren't NAMBLA members out of prison.

That trem impalement story is true ... BIG OUCH. It happened on the 'big band' tour in, IIRC, 1988 -- and it was on a Floyd fitted to a Clapton sig Strat. PT was windmilling with such force that he drove the bar right through his hand, fainting dead away from the pain and shock. He was rushed to hospital even as the rest of the ensemble were finishing the encore. By some miracle, he managed to avoid damage to any nerves or tendons and was back onstage (albeit heavily bandaged) a few nights later. Since then he's used regular Strat trems, which -- unlike the Floyds -- have that plastic tip fitted to the end of the bar.
