Michigan is all about Ted Nugent and Bob Seger.

New Jersey is all about Bruce Springsteen.

And the list goes on... but those are the only two I know. :p

I actually like Bruce Springsteen but Ted Nugent and Bob Seger are SO overplayed here in Michigan I've grown to hate the both of them.

Um, Ted Nugent, Bob Seger and Bruce Springsteen aren't exactly roots rockers. I think you meant "Heartland" rockers....

Roots rock is this:

Steve Earle

Wilco

Uncle Tupelo

Even the Black Crows

Wikipedia, for what it's worth, lists Heartland Rock as a subset of Roots Rock.

Go figure, I didn't even know there were so many different sub-genres. C-Can't we all just, get along?

I've managed to make it almost two years here without hearing anything but hip-hop and Latino pop music. The closest thing I've seen to annoying roots rockers are the 50-year-old guys who play classic rock covers for other 50-year-olds. Most of those guys have never heard of Steve Earle or Wilco or Ryan Adams. Fact is, I'd love to meet people who have.

Not really roots rockers but.....

Ill take Seger and Nuge anyday over the BS play that Kid Rock gets here.

He's so very Avg yet gets Zeppelin and Clapton like billing anywhere in MI.

Rant off.

Delaware....

What do you think?

George Thoroughgood and the Delaware Destroyers!

(Though I really don't care for his music much).

Kid next door took bass lessons from the bassist.

Another friend of mind played softball in a league with the guitar player.....

Nugent is neither a roots nor a heartland rocker. I'm glad he doesn't get played much on the radio here. Of course, Washington, DC, is a music radio wasteland, so Nugent might be a slight improvement.

DC's fixation for a good two decades was Little Feat. They would sell out a whole week at places like the Warner Theater. They filled in as Chuck Berry's backing band in DC. On SRV's last tour, at Merriweather, he opened for Little Feat (and he opened for Bonnie Raitt in D.C. on that same tour). All that seems to have died away in the last decade or so.

Had an old drummer who was a huge Feat fan! Great way to learn some slide!

Not Roots or Heartland, but Saint Louis goes ape{censored} over red rocker. I dont get it, but the dude hangs out here quite a bit and even has a bar here.

But St. Louis has The Bottle Rockets, and they flat out rule!:thu:
