Members Into Nation
A bud of mine. The backing track: [video=youtube;oiZp5EnffBU]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiZp5EnffBU His ad lib. [video=youtube;aSF7TKCBKxU] I really like it - pretty much his style, way outside the pentatonic box I live in. He thinks it's meh. If you like it drop him a comment on UTB. Members tiltsta
Yeah, if I had a dollar for every person I met who said they play a little, or used to, and then they rip it up, I'd be a very rich man.

Members tiltsta
I'm with you, crow. I play for fun. I have no aspirations of making a dime with guitar. I play at home 90% of the time, and occasionally sit in with friends band...mostly playing rhythm stuff. I have a blast, but I'm never going to be a great player. Members tiltsta
The only good part, is that the guys I have run into who are really jaw dropping good have been really enthusiastic musicians and always have something good to say about everyone else's playing. The tend to focus on the positive and encourage. They have also been really great teachers at showing me licks, techniques and stuff. The mediocre guys with a chip on their shoulders stand in stark contrast to this.

Members soundcreation
It's funny how that is. I had a friend who I use to jam and write songs with (me on drums) and he was a good player but a very very good song writer. Came up with all kinds of great riffs and licks. But so many times when we were jamming and he'd do something cool, he would kind of blow it off and not develop it. I think sometimes people over think playing. That it needs to be more complicated than it really does to sound cool. As for your friends vid....I think he's just being modest. That is some excellent playing. Members straycat113
That was really nice playing with great note selection, but though you may not think so he was playing 70% Ab pentatonic, and mixing it with the Natural Minor scale. You should play with him more to get a grasp of what he is doing, and would realize modal playing is not as scary or confusing as many people think. Members mosiddiqi
Nice!..I enjoyed that..as straycat said it's mostly Ab pent with some natural minor in there.. his phrasing is very cool and he milks the 9 a lot which gives it a lovely wistful sound...great whammy work too! Members sleewell
the timing and phrasing are very nice, dude has some real talent regardless of what he thinks. confidence is an issue for many of us, including myself.
Members Elias Graves
I love someone who can rip it. What I love more is someone who can bring it but doesn't feel compelled to do so when it's not needed. My nephew is like that. The dude can tear it up but also fine playing a three chord rhythm when that's what's called for. EG
Members Argh! Zombies!
Anyone know where the backing is from originally? It sounds very familiar and I'm going a bit nuts trying to place it.

Members aliensporebomb
Very nice take, nice stratty tone and nice lyrical approach. That backing was distributed as an MP3 here back when Red Ant, Ed DeGenaro, GtrDave and others had jams going on, I can't remember if I ever did a version of it myself but still have the backing somewhere. I'd appreciate the file if you've got it! Went on a fruitless search this afternoon, feel dirty after ending up in countless dead-end mp3 sites. I also rummaged through my old computer and found out why it's so familiar. I heard it about four years ago as the backing for an amp demo, always liked the progression, and at some point in the last couple years recreated it in Garageband to wail over in a speaker demo I did. My version's pretty basic and doesn't have all the changes.

I'm always looking to learn more and spread what I have been taught/figured out on my own.
