Off the acceptable genre track for HCEG, but these are two female vocal performances that do wow me.

Elaine Paige, famous from London stage work, she had a top 10 hit with this one.

She blows the top of my head off at 2:55

A YT critique I agree with, "This is so beyond amazing. Her characterization, her expression, her EYES, her stance, her perfect control is amazing. So much emotion put into every line and the? line "i was beautiful then"- wow, you can see her literally regain a bit of her dignity at the mere memory, before she deflates back. and the last part. wow. just, wow."

And definitely a guilty pleasure, the one we all love to smirk at, but dang, Awesome.

The resonance of her voice although somewhat nasally is an amazing sound.

The goose bump moment at 3:45 is not quite as strong as Elaine Page's crescendo, but it's still pretty cool and Andrea Corr's moments on camera and her tin whistle make that vid all the better. ;)

Some of my favorites have already been mentioned - Allison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Susannah Hoffs

Here's some more:

One of my recent favorites, Elizabeth Powell of Land of Talk. Love her voice and her guitar playing.

Few female vocalists can top Bjork in terms of pure inventiveness and originality.

Julianna Hatfield was the first female rocker I really got into as a teenager.

Had such a crush on Hope Sandoval before I even saw her. Only got worse once I did.
