Members honeyiscool Posted April 8, 2011 Members Posted April 8, 2011 As you know, Fender Japan makes a lot of different guitars that never make it out of Japan. Here are some of my favorites: Jazzmaster w/ ivory binding and block inlays Hollow body Jazzmaster: F-hole Jaguar: Jaguar, bound neck: Jaguar, matching headstock: Competition Mustang: Competition Mustang Bass: Awesome Ash Strat: Paisley Tele: Jaguar Bass, left-handed so you lefties don't feel left out (hehe)
Members honeyiscool Posted April 8, 2011 Author Members Posted April 8, 2011 Oh {censored}, they have a matching headstock version of the pink Strat: And for you old-fashioned guitar lovers, how about a taste of this: God, this kind of {censored} just makes American guitars boring.
Members aclarke Posted April 8, 2011 Members Posted April 8, 2011 Albert Collins model - on the lookout for one of these: Black hollow jag: nice green with matching headstock: Always been a sucker for those metal covers: want these are pretty cool, had one for a while a couple years back. kind of regret selling it, might buy another: rosewood topped strat: Always loved the look of these: want. New budget model:
Members honeyiscool Posted April 8, 2011 Author Members Posted April 8, 2011 rosewood topped strat: Amazing. I love how it gives you a little flavor of the Telecaster in a Strat format by having that slab body. Best of both worlds? I think so.
Members aliensporebomb Posted April 8, 2011 Members Posted April 8, 2011 Christ, between the two guitars with matching headstocks, the rosewood topped strat and the other strat with the SSH configuration with the Gotoh it makes most strats here seem bo-ring. Excellent.
Members honeyiscool Posted April 8, 2011 Author Members Posted April 8, 2011 How about some bass love: Aside from the bling, these just seem so eminently playable. And wait... is that a scallop? It looks like a scallop.

I think if you order 25, Fender Japan will build anything you want. A lot of the really cool stuff comes from limited runs like that. Musicland (large chain here) does this a few times a year.

I'm not a Japanophile or nothing, but Fender Japan is the best of America made better, period.
Members *BLEEP* Posted April 8, 2011 Members Posted April 8, 2011 And wait... is that a scallop? It looks like a scallop. Yup (!). It's scalloped.
Members honeyiscool Posted April 8, 2011 Author Members Posted April 8, 2011 It looks like a very tasteful, light scallop. I can only imagine it's the best neck I've never played.
Members aclarke Posted April 8, 2011 Members Posted April 8, 2011 And wait... is that a scallop? It looks like a scallop. Trick of the light. Just found this one: Got to stop this, can't afford a new guitar right now...
Members cratz2 Posted April 8, 2011 Members Posted April 8, 2011 I'm not drooling over any of them too much, but that candy red Jag with the matching headstock... not too shabby.
Members honeyiscool Posted April 8, 2011 Author Members Posted April 8, 2011 So I was shopping the other day, thinking how come Fender doesn't make many FR guitars with maple fingerboards? I guess they're all in Japan. I'm not drooling over any of them too much, but that candy red Jag with the matching headstock... not too shabby. Ha, I had one and sold it. It sure was a looker but it was getting no action in my castle.

I used to see the Competition Mustang guitars and basses around a couple of years ago. In fact, I know someone locally who bought one at Geetar Center back then.

Members honeyiscool Posted April 8, 2011 Author Members Posted April 8, 2011 Well, you can get these, just hard. Some of these were offered in America for a while, and there's always people like me who want a guitar enough to import it. I'd love a Compstang guitar and bass, matching set, white with blue stripes. Will be hard unless I do the work myself.
Members Alecto Posted April 8, 2011 Members Posted April 8, 2011 There were a couple of Fender Japan versions of this pair in a local shop: I was strongly tempted to get them for myself and the wife (she plays bass) so we'd have matching instruments.

And they're MIJ.
Members akapuli Posted April 8, 2011 Members Posted April 8, 2011 Albert Collins model - on the lookout for one of these: Always wanted, but I only have seen one on the eBay and it was gone really fast.
Members Spike Li Posted April 8, 2011 Members Posted April 8, 2011 These (Aerodynes) are MIJ but ive actually seen then in person here in Oz. Passed up the strat for a p90 guitar but still kinda wish i bought it :\nAnd the P-Bass is just Funnily i never saw these in Japan
Members twotimingpete Posted April 8, 2011 Members Posted April 8, 2011 I swear to god, those mustang guitars and mustang basses with the stripes and colored headstocks are just absolutely to die for. I don't get why we can't buy those here. I'd probably drop money I'd have no business dropping.
Members Argh! Zombies! Posted April 8, 2011 Members Posted April 8, 2011 The translucent pink with the maple neck would get my seed. +1 on the Charvel. Fender already makes several fantastic FR/maple superstrats, with unbelievable necks and price tags, they just don't print Fender on the headstocks.
