Thanks. Daddy's already shopping for shotguns to keep the boys away.

She seems to like Neil Young right now. thumb.gif

And the first time she heard the opening to Stairway to Heaven she stopped crying and fell asleep in my arms. boring.gif

But that also means five more work days. cry.gif

(On a positive note, my six-month-old daughter Claire slept through the night last night after the previous night's 'tough-love' session. When she cried out, we didn't pick her up. That meant daddy went in every five minutes, rubbed her tummy, said 'I love you', and then left the room while she was still wailing. Apart from dealing with the likes of you guys on a daily basis, it was the hardest thing I've ever done. cry.gif )

Get this -- she likes it more when I play my Tele and Fender Champ than my SG and Bluesbreaker clone. WTF? I'll have to fix that!! More gain!!! mad.gifmad.gif

Good skills, We did that with littlefatmonkeyboy. Heartbreaking at the time, worth it afterwards.

here he is, and what he thinkd of daddy leaving him to cry.

She yelled quite a bit too -- more like a growl with a scrunched-up nose. She was pissed!!

sure, i enjoy my job. i don't mind going to work, other than having to wake up. and my work itself, it's not so bad. a lot of people got it a lot worse.

i think about every band i was ever in ... and there was often a point it felt like work. like, i HAD to show up for rehearsal, i HAD to be here, there or whatever. and it started to suck. now, i just go around and jam with my homies play whatever and have fun. i'd love to play in front of people again, but i don't want to feel like i have to. i mean, obviously, if i have a show scheduled ... it's different, and i look forward to it. but the idea of it being some sort of job ... man, i love it too much to turn it into that.

work is just a means to an end. i ain't tryin to change the world or whatever through my job. but maybe some kid hears me play guitar or play drums and wants to pick it up, then rock on. i actually had something like that happen a long time ago - some kid came to my former drum teacher (and good friend) for lessons wearing my old band's tshirt. as it turned out, he wore that shirt at EVERY lesson he came to. and when rob told me about it, it blew me away. to the kid, he was like "hey man, you know, the drummer in that band comes in here a lot." and apparently the kid was like "no way! he ROCKS. he's why i'm taking lessons!"

i was 19 years old when that went down. it was just the most amazing feeling when i heard it. like ... i have no idea where that kid is or what he's doing ... but if he's playing drums and kicking ass; then i really feel like i've done SOMETHING. and it had nothing to do with websites or databases or money or marketing ...

maybe one day i can land in a gig where i can be 100% satisfied playing and all. maybe it's starting my own thing and bringing the right people in.

but, for me ... now ... playing music is a hobby. and i don't think i'm ready to make it anything else.

all that said ... i just turned 30, and it was a super weird deal for me. but other than hangovers hurting a little more, and the occasional aches and pains that didn't used to be there, few more tattoos, few more scars, few more stories ... i still feel the exact same as i did when i was 18.

Interesting story. I'd say that I've been in a permanent midlife crisis since I was about 25 (i'm now 36). But not really in a bad way. It's more of a "i dont want to get old" type feeling. Much like you, i feel like i should still be 18, if that makes sense. I still feel young at heart, and want to do the kinds of things an 18 year old or a 25 year old might be into (as opposed to, say, raising a family, or some of those things that "grown ups" do. Haha).

I definitely know how you mean about keeping the job completely separate from things I enjoy doing. Doing ANYTHING day in and day out, for money, because i HAVE to would take the fun out of it. Even guitar. To me, the job is a means to an end, mcuh like you said. I have a good job, it pays the bills and funds my gear when need be. I can't complain. But that is all it is. My passions lie elsewhere.

btw, good morning gents! Nice to see the late night action didn't let up last night wink.gif

Neil is ultimate rock n' roll, in my book.

Yep. She (and daddy) love the electric version of Cowgirl in the Sand. I love playing the rhythm part along to the CD. Am and F in different configurations until you die. It sounds okay on the clean channel of my Traynor pushed just to the spot before breakup on the preamps and then a bit of grit with my Keeley Fuzz Head with the gain all the way up and the fuzz at about 9 o'clock.

Now I just need something with a Bigsby to play lead!

From HyperRust > http://www.hyperrust.org/OLD-ChordTa...irlInSand.html

The Am & F Rythym

These four bars are ONE sample of a way to pump the rythym stuff out, props to the late Danny Whitten.

Am

|---------0--------|-0-------0--------|

|-1--1-1--1---x1---|-1-x--------------|

|-2--2-2--2-2-x2---|----x-0--2--------|

|-2--2-2----2------|----x-2--2--------|

|-0----------------|---------0--------|

|------------------|------------------|

F

|-------0_1--------|-1-x--1-----1-----|

|------1--1---x-x--|-1-x--1-----1-----|

|-2-2--2--2---x-x--|-0-x--x-----2-----|

|-3-3--3--3---x----|-3-x--3-----------|

|-3-3--------------|----------3-------|

|-1----------------|------------------|

You should just variate this stuff out.

For the Am, I use Asus2, Asus4, A, Amaj7, and everything excpet the A-kitchen sink.

Same with the F.

I kinda move around the chord shapes like Southern Man does.

Also, throw the Am in the 5th pos., and the F in the 8th pos., as well as the 3rd pos.

Additionally, timbres, muting, and up/downstrokes can count for A LOT. Smack some stuff out near the bridge, whilst others up by the neck.

Do what you can, for it's the same two chords over and over again my love, whoops wrong tune.

Man, why is it that everyone and their sister seems to figure out how to dial in an amp but me?

When i read "on the clean channel of my Traynor pushed just to the spot before breakup on the preamps and then a bit of grit with my Keeley Fuzz Head with the gain all the way up and the fuzz at about 9 o'clock." i get all twitchy. After all my gear purchases, and experimenting, all I seem to ever get is "clean" and "distortion". I've never been able to find this magical sweet spot on either my Classic30 or my Tiny Terror where the things just about breakup (and i know EXACTLY what tone you mean by that), let alone push it just overboard with a bit of fuzz: my Little Big Muff doen't seem to do "a bit of fuzz". There's just "Fuzz" or "no fuzz".

Argh!

Argh!

I feel your pain.

I was getting the same thing from my Tonebender clone. All or nothing.

The Fuzz Head's really cool with a lot of variation.

I'll post some video clips on Friday after a few beers.

Please do. I really need to learn the art of dialing in an amp/guitar. It's pissing me off. (can you tell i'm frustrated?). I kept thinking it was the gear, but I'm pretty sure it's not. (i've heard people get magical tones out of the Classic 30).

what i've always done is set all the knobs at 12 o'clock and start at the left and work my way down. adjust, strum a barre G chord - almost arpeggio, just enough to get some note clarity but still sound like a chord, adjust, repeat for 4 hours till i'm happy with it.

Might have to try one out. I'm at a point where I want to toss (well, sell) all my gear and start from scratch by judiciously spending my money on a few quality pieces, rather than a hodgepodge of mid-level stuff.

Having said that, I have a feeling that no matter what gear i get, my lack of playing abilities will always make it sound awful smile.gif
