Members aliensporebomb
Watermelon In Easter Hay by Frank Zappa. That song has some serious good stratocaster tones.Max But the studio version is a Les Paul with custom electronics (same one on the cover of the Shut up and Play record). I like the live version with the strat, very cool to see Keneally in there too.

Members aliensporebomb
Frank ZappaTinseltown Rebellion Pick Me I'm Clean (Track 12)Solo starting at 2:07I could not find a link but this solo still sends shivers up my spine (especially the part where the time changes) whenever I hear it and I am forced to rewind at least once. Yeah, that's a good one. Lots of Frank's solos had a beautiful anthemliketype feature, in fact, all of the solos on "Joe's Garage" even Rolling Stonemagazine; notorious for dopeyness over the years recognized that hissolos "burned with a desolate, devastating beauty". Yeah. The whole shut up and play/joes/tinseltown/you are what you is sequencehad a lot of terrific playing by him, he kind of hit his stride. I think my favorite of his playing at that point was largely done on SG - the strat/humbucker/floyd tone was more rude and less majestic. Thinking of some more. Members orbm1
AWESOME SOLOS in this thread...My submision will be:Although it is a full song, the whole instrumental thing makes it a LONG solo for me, and IT is one of the best for me... There is a solo that I love but is not on guitar though...Billy Joel"Just the Way you Are" Sax Solo...Omar
Members aliensporebomb
Pink Floyd - Dogs Gilmour's playing is all over that track and ranges widely over tons of styles and tones, it's almost a lexicon of the types of playing he can do rather than one little feature. Members aliensporebomb
Ive never heard this.I really like it. Love the keyboard player too.The whole thing has a similar vibe to what Framton was doing in his heyday. I love his lead tone and playing on this track and his lines and the coolbluesy electric piano playing adds a nice feel.

Members ILikeGuitar
HDRPazZySzE h5tS5V9DIG0 Here are my contributions, agree with most of the stuff posted before and for Floyd I would say Time and Comfortably Numb are the most epic These are beautiful as in kind of like the beauty of a perfect storm or hurricane, SRV's solos at el mocambo were just cathartic and raw fury. There are points at El Mocambo where I just thought his guitar would suddenly catch fire.

Members 3shiftgtr
the lack of wes montgomery here is insulting. I don't care if you're not a big jazz guy; go out an buy "Smoking at the half note" and pick any one of the solos he plays at that show as the most beautiful guitar solo ever. just sick ^^^^^this to the mother flucking this:cool:^^^^and of course this right down here for the win:thu::

Members w00dsy
i was going to post that last night, but instead i got distracted trying to learn it. Scottie Hill is great at doing those types of solo's. In A Darkened Room has one of the best solos i've heard.

Members teleman55
Love these choices. Got to add one. That short break in the Stones Gimme Shelter. Keef plays that simple thing there that gets me every time. It's like the distilled essence of the song.

Members blingdogg
Excellent solos, everyone. There's so many sweet ones out there, I liked a lot of them. So beautiful.... This is not something that should be admitted in a public place:facepalm: You need to just go and do some immersion therapy for a few weeks Your prescription is: Obscured by Clouds Atom Heart Mother Meddle Dark Side of the Moon Wish You Were Here Animals To be taken everyday for 4 weeks at regular intervals haha I like some Pink Floyd songs that were mentioned in this thread. I like the ones that get to the point, where the band just gets in right away and plays, but it's the songs that have too much spacey, atmospheric, experimental sounds that turn me off. Good stuff though. I think Time is my favorite song from them (partly because for some reason the solo reminds me of a live Little Wing performance Hendrix did once).
