Members wardjames
Big Ball's in Cowtown is pretty obscure, but it goes over pretty well:[video=youtube;--fOruzPN-o]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--fOruzPN-o
Members astone923
We do a rock version of Duran Duran's Rio. It surprises me, but that seems to be peoples' favorite song that we do. We do that one acoustic with Corduroy by Pearl Jam... weird one... people like both songs though,

Members MikeyParent
In a previous band we did Thompson Twins Hold Me Now as a fast song... almost always killed. We also did a rockabilly/punk-style cover of diggin up bones that always was well received
Members GCDEF
That song has ridiculous bass. Here's our version. Pretty ridiculous drums too, at least the way our drummer does it. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=1016608&songID=11191164
Members MikeyParent
Not sure if this qualifies but I was always surprised how well the following went over:- Beds Are Burning (Midnight Oil)- I Think We're Alone Now (Tiffany)

Members stevmac1
We do a punk (very fast) version of "Five Hundred Miles" by The Proclaimers that people flip for. Lots of fun to play and very simple...
Members GCDEF
Great job! Thanks. We give Love Will Keep Us Together by Captain and Tenille similar treatment which works too, but I think that's mainly because people are surprised to hear it. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=1016608&songID=11409199
Members Ku'Yleh
We do a punk (very fast) version of "Five Hundred Miles" by The Proclaimers that people flip for. Lots of fun to play and very simple... Hell yeah. I gotta bring that one in again, it always did great with the ladies back in the day. But srsly guise, check out Henrietta. I am amazed at how well it goes over, considering approximately NO ONE has heard it.
Members the_big_e
Don't know about obscure but Copperhead Road always seems to get a few hot chicks up dancing. Wooly Bully always seemed to get people up doing something best described as "White folks can't dance!"
Members msmooth
My last band did "Watching the Detectives" which did very well for us. When lead player suggested it I said, "cool song but not sure if it is right for us". We did it and it killed. I'm not sure if they still do it or not, but I am adding to my acoustic rotation for when I get my duo (with bass player) going.
Members Blackbird 13
500 Miles has always done well for us, but I wouldn't call that obscure. The most "obscure" song we do that works well has to be Wagon Wheel....

Members mstreck
Fully Alive by Flyleaf gets a lot of heads banging for us - guys AND girls. I don't know of any other band that covers it - at least around here.[video=youtube;-d3RYW0YoEk]

Members martyr40
We originally built our setlist up from cool tunes that were just off the beaten path - in the years since that, it still blows me away how people freak out for a classic Kiss song like "She"

Pretty ridiculous drums too, at least the way our drummer does it. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=1016608&songID=11191164 Nice! I enjoyed that. That's actually a reasonably straight interpretation, with the exception of the obviously changed instrumentation and the phrasing of the bass line (which bothered me, to be honest). Good work overall, though! If I can figure out how to do that bass part and sing at the same time, I might convince the guys to add this one, too. Brian V. Members TrickyBoy
Funny, having never heard that term before, that's relatively close to the feel we do it in. Maybe a weeee bit more Ramone-esque, but still very similar
