Won a battle of the bands last night! Opening for Matchbox 20 in September

Had a 12 band show (3 song sets) at the House of Blues in Las Vegas. It was a great night of music and it really got me excited about the state of local original music in Vegas.

One of the main problems I've seen with the local music scene has been competition instead on community, but I didn't really feel that last night. The vibe backstage was very cool and welcoming, and we all just went there to have some fun (except for one band who seemed to just be locking themselves in a green room and not being as social...)

We played a solid set, everything felt good, but all of the bands were pretty good, and some were really good. My buddy's band totally crushed their set, and I thought that they might take the winning spot.

In the end, we were all on stage, and they called out 'Beau & the Outfit' as the winner! We will be playing on the main stage at 'Bite of Las Vegas', which is a food and music festival Sept 29th. It's a neat opportunity, but we will most likely be opening the main stage for the day, so playing at 11:00am, nowhere near when the headliners Matchbox 20 and Alanis Morrisette. But it should still be a fun day, a chance to play on the big stage and get some good pictures, that's for sure!

ya know thinking back when There & Back Again got to the semi-finals of a casino run BOTB thing in the spring most of the bands we competed against were really nice but there was ONE whose members shouted insults at us from the crowd when we won the 1st round and played an encore set.

yeah mature...

You won a battle of the bands...and the prize is opening for Matchbox 20? Sounds like it should be more of a punishment for the loser. :poke:

Why is that? Maybe you would be too cool in your own world to take the gig, but I bet most of us would jump on it. :)

Thanks (to most of you)!! It was a really fun night, and the 3rd time I got to play on the main stage at the House of Blues (which before the first gig there was a bucket list item for me!)

We do all originals, as did all of the bands present. It was nice to see that there are non-cookie monster bands really crushing some good music here in Vegas (lots of metal 'round these parts).

I think what clinched it for us is our 3 part harmonies, all well rehearsed and particularly well executed that night! We also pulled out a chorus tag where the drummer grabbed a banjo and played the kick and hi hat along with the banjo and vocals. It could have also been our style. We're a little bit country, but still very rock and roll!

I just spoke to the area Gibson rep and got us lined up to play a 'Gibson showroom' here in town the week of the festival, we'll record a few songs (video) on Monday, and it will air on Fox 5 in Vegas the Thursday before the event! I told the guys in the band that this rocket ship is full of fuel, and ready for take off!!

Congrats! And a very legitimate reason for missing your brother's band's debut! But I expect to see you at their next show. ;)

Maybe one day YOUR band will open for the Cookie Monsters From Hell or some other equally famous band. If that has ever happened you neglected to let us know about it, to the best of my knollidge.

WAY TO GO BASSRED!!!!! Just beating out 11 other good bands is something to be proud of in itself. Glad that somebody from here is finally making something of themselves, lol!:)
