Members garthman
Time to dig out the gits, folks. Since the 2016 recipient of the Nobel Literature prize is Bob Dylan it would be churlish not to post my version of one of his songs. The Nobel Institute cited the "Blonde On Blonde" album as one of his greatest achievements so here is my take on: "I Want You" by Bob Dylan https://app.box.com/shared/qkvd0nas2k It's not a new recording - I think I recorded it about 8 years ago and posted it in a VOM way back when. An acoustic, stripped down slow version of the song.
Members catscurlyear
Hi Howard ,lovely song and great performance that song realy suits you and a good nod at Bob My contribution this month is my fave Genesis tune and i`m sure Bob will have influenced this lot. I had to detune the guitar two semi tones and I still sound like some one stood on my toe for a long time . I recorded it on a trial version of Cubase 8.5 , and was played on the old Eko (Rio Grande) whatever that is supposed to mean ,probs some tax dodge .anyway this one is two steps beyond my show . hope you like it. https://app.box.com/s/l8pprzhu6rk1oi57bu5zjsgaxj72ozm4
Members Idunno
Lot's of angst about ol' Bob getting badged for the Nobel thingy. Evidently, literature and music are recognized as separate in the Nobel rules of engagement yet the Nobel committee chose to break those rules and give the award for literature to a musician. Tempers are a'flairin' fer shur. Oh, well, what goods' a Nobel prize for anything, anyway? No time to record this weekend. I need to jump beneath a Jeep Cherokee and stay there until it's fixed. So, after resurrecting some of his stuff from my old set list or yore, here's another Cat Stevens song. It's my wife's favorite. https://app.box.com/s/x0pelkmjeh785h1qrrqoy3lpzj4jd2lr
Members DeepEnd
Most of you know I'm a science fiction fan. One subset of SF fandom is "filk," songs with an SF/fantasy bent. Our St. Louis regional SF convention was September 30-October 2 and there was a filk contest. The theme this year was "the final frontier," in honor of Star Trek's 50th anniversary. This was my entry, called "The Land of Love": http://yourlisten.com/DeepEnd/thelandoflove.

Members recordingtrack1
JUST FOR FUN! I didn't have time to record anything new, so I dug WAY back in the box of old cassette tapes from my days playing in bar bands. We weren't very tech-savvy in those days and we just used an old JAM box cassette recorder and our drummer turned it on and off with his drum sticks, LOL.Pretty low audio quality, but that's me singing the top end and this one is a pretty good example of my electric guitar playing. I apologize for corrupting the acoustic sanctity of the VOM, but it is the best I can do right now. From circa 1995, warts and all. I hope ya'll like it. We did have a whole bunch of fun in them days!!!! https://app.box.com/s/7dz7p5fxj4mfh5uft3nhapp5v1yh9jam
Members recordingtrack1
I never heard that song before. Very well done and heartfelt. Kind of brought a tear to my eye. Well done. I liked it, Joe.
Members recordingtrack1
I always feel better after I have listened to one of your songs. Very well done and well-written. I admire the fact that you can get away with no processing at all in your mixes. It works well for you.
Members recordingtrack1
Well that was just excellent and I really dug it. I would like to see the vocals a little farther out front of the mix. Don't back off on the guitar one bit, just push the vocals a bit hotter and use a brick wall limiter on that track if you need to. Just my uneducated opinion. Otherwise, it was clean and in the pocket. I give it a 10! LOL.

Members DeepEnd
Thanks guys, you're very kind. As for the lack of processing, that's just the way I record, Audacity and a single mike.
Members garthman
I've only just listened to everyone's submissions. I started the VOM thread then headed off for a week's visit to East Anglia. Excellent stuff as usual. Well done to all. Next VOM will be the weekend of Nov 19th/20th - look forward to hearing the music.
