That may be the case Phil but theres little doubt in my mind that if the various mods and admin stopped posting here for a couple of weeks the posts would plummet. It has a certain club feel about it now, the "in" gang and the rest, us who Ratae makes it perfectly clear are not welcome, because we have no particular area of expertise to share. Well I'm sorry but thats most members. Perfectly portrayed by his attitude, as he says, if youre not happy then....... Which is exactly what people have done.

 

That truly sums up the attitude. The welcome mat is certainly not out to the average musician from the sounds of it.

A newbie, posting the obvious question, sure, come on in, we will gladly point you out into the proper direction. A person like mbeing.... he posts questions, never returns to post, never answers if the suggestions helped, and generally, asks questions that someone who supposedly plays that "well" (subject to taste) shouldn't have to ask.

 

I am reminded of one post of his, and I paraphrase here, "What 7 string would evh play, I bet he would say a lot of things, just as I will when I get one" WTF????

 

Another post was how his beloved RG had an electrical issue. We ALL busted our proverbial butts coming up with possible suggestions to fix it. I asked several times what was wrong with it. The final answer was he took it to a repair man and got it fixed, but never said what was wrong with it. At that point I threw up my hands and gave up on the lad. I would have used the mute button if I knew were it was.

 

I, for one, will gladly help anyone asking questions. Part of my belief with the guitar is to share knowledge. There comes a point though, that with some people, they don't want an answer, they just want to hear themselves talk. If it bothered him that the post was blocked, he would have said something. So far, he hasn't. He will probably come back in a week or two with another inane question, and ignore the solutions given. That's his way.

My post was not about mbengs,I agree, he is a waster. My observations where about the general attitude towards members and the forum. Eg Its all been done before and don't bother unless youre telling us experts something we dont know. If thats what the mods think they should either shut it down or make it subscription only to access the wisdom of the club members! Ratae post is a perfect indicator of why the place is a wasteland.

And once again, the original post was a two part question: How does fretboard material affect sound? And how does fretboard material affect your playing? All those other threads on this and all those other forums are concerned with sound. I turned up one page about how fretboard material might affect playing. I suspect at least some members of this forum might have an opinion or two about that, which would be "a viable thread that could ignite and stimulate debate".

Personally, I'm not even vaguely interested in post counts....I'm old fashioned....quality before quantity anyday. I'm in constant contact with many HCEG old hands, and the reason they don't come back much, or at all, is the cock up with the forum changes over the past few years and the deterioration in the quality of posting and information available

And to be honest if I and indeed quite a few other mods weren't as tolerant as we are, you'd be history.

 

You twist, derive inferences and implications that aren't even meant, use alts, and push everything to the edge.

You seem to infer that only experts in some field or other should be posting or are welcome contributors. What about us that read more than we post, those that in general are here to improve our experience or learn something? (And have a laugh or bit of banter along the way, god forbid that should happen!)

I have offered my resignation in the mods area, but was encouraged to carry on, as besides the odd visit by Frets, it's left to Phil to clean up the mess, and Phil has a whole lot more serious stuff to do, and I'm the only one to do the tidy ups. I intervene minimally, left you to deal with Phil when you had a bone to pick with different alts from your IP addy.

As I've mentioned on numerous occasions, I originally requested mod status, as early in the UK day on this forum there was shedloads of kitchen spam, originating from UK IP addresses, and I just wanted to make sure that this forum wasn't screwed by UK based spammers.

 

I'm very happy if you want to do summat like a vote of confidence and can get enough of a sample of this forum and I'll resign with no prejudice.

Ratty, I have no desire for you to go. I actually have no beef with you at all, apart from the, If you dont like it....attitude, I dont think that helps.

My main observation is that other forums seem to be thriving. This one is not.

Other forums seem to have fun, this one does not.

The character of the forum has changed. I am not saying its your fault or any specific mod or admin, but it has.

Any ribbing or joking is seen as offence or an attack. Its all a bit too nursery and petty now. Im not alone, one glance at the missing list will tell you that. But as ive said before, their forum their rules. Things change, I get that.

Have my attitude, level of posts and quality of input changed?, yes. Mainly because I dont feel comfortable or welcome here now. So, like others, I go elsewhere.

Ps. Regarding my lads account and banning, there was NO insult to a mod. When I pursued it to try and bottom out what they found insulting, I was told any further pm contact would be considered harassment. Accused, judged, no evidence or explanation. Just mentioned so youre aware. Probably me banned now. Oh well, lifes a bitch. (Can I say that?)

I can't comment as I was out of the loop for a while, my only interaction being that I checked the forum Mon-Fri between 08:30 and 10:30 to check for spam. I think you're wise enough not to cross the line and get banned.

 

 

Yes it is sad now, and I remember how quickly the front page used to change, but I believe the company Lithium put paid to most members who never came back.

 

For me, I know I can do nothing but just work with what we have.

 

I also have a feeling that global economies have had a bit impact on how many NGDs that people have and the associated banter that went with them...I dunno.
