Members ambient
tgp has no lulz oh I don't know, I think this 'announcement' is pretty funny. Probably because so many of the people there are lawyers: Why doesn't TGP allow discussion of "deals gone bad"?I have addressed this multiple times, but it keep coming up. I'll state it again, however, in the form of an announcement. There is more than one reason why we try our hardest to keep this stuff off of the board. Possible legal issues are only one reason, but it is the one that people keep bringing up. Let's discuss this for a moment before I go on to the main reasons we don't allow this stuff on TGP.Discussion sites like TGP are pretty well protected by law from being successfully sued by someone for what members write in their posts. The odds of a lawsuit are small and we WOULD likely win....if we can afford to hang in there financially through the lawsuit, the counter lawsuit, and then the appeals process. Prior to any appeal, we're already talking about $50,000 as a rough estimate. Most rational people would not sue if they knew that they were going to lose. Not all people are "rational"! Remember the Washington D.C. lawsuit by a judge vs a dry cleaner.......who wanted 64 million dollars for a lost pair of pants? All you need to do is talk to lawyers who will happily tell you that frivolous lawsuits happen all of the time. As an administrator of TGP my main duty is to protect the website and make sure that it continues forward. I would be failing in my duties, in my opinion, if I don't consider the general welfare of the website and make that my primary duty.Very simply put, we do not have the time or personnel to investigate the legitimacy of a complaint posted by a member about another person or company. If contacted by the company with a request to delete the posted complaint, we are obligated to either delete the post or to investigate the truth and facts in that post. Yes, we want to protect our members, but we are not set up to do the work for an agency like the Better Business Bureau (BBB). If you feel that a company has not carried through with their end of a transaction we urge you to contact the BBB that is located nearest to where the company does business. Their job is to try to help consumers avoid being hurt by businesses......and they do it better than we can. We STRONGLY advocate that you research businesses via the BBB BEFORE sending money! You are free to post a link to a BBB site page about a company on TGP, but MAY NOT comment on any negative issues with companies on TGP. That relieves us of a heavy liability burden. Members Seth Carmody
TGP has no personality. It's a bannable offence to have one Though tor some reason google seems to search TGP better than hcfx, so if I want some quick opinions on a pedal I usually search TGP. Members CS
I joined TGP a while back when I felt (rightly or wrongly) that the lunatics had taken over the asylum here at HC. I stuck with it a while. I got an infraction for some minor name calling and asked the mod to perma band me as I couldnt trust myself not to do it again. I started posting here again and as I am a 49 year old that uses a Klon in a P&W band I do feel like a square peg, I feel more at home here than anywhere else. Members JRBain
I post quite a bit on TGP these days... The TGP crowd is obsessed with minute aspects of gear (eg. buffers, cables), has more than a few 'blues lawyers' in it, and in general favours hugely expensive boutique amps, most of which are essentially handmade Fenders, Marshalls and VOX, from what I can tell. Oh, and boutique is the way to go with pedals, too. There is also a slightly comical fixation with 'D-Tone', which isn't necessarily the same as what a Dumble sounds like, and can be derived from a variety of sources, from the aforementioned expensive amplifiers to overdrive pedals. And then of course there is the Klon. But I've encountered a great deal more animosity and infantile behaviour on HC forums than on TGP. The people over there are usually very courteous and friendly. Whilst The Political Party has to be the worst; HC's own desolate pit of mindless negativity, this one is, and has been, great, particularly after a couple of much-needed permabans. Members Dr.Pain-MD
I post here for the OT stuff which is usually great. TGP has none of this, therefore TGP loses in my books. TGP is like watching King of the Hill if you took away the fun of watching King of the Hill.

Members duderanimous
:facepalm:There was a topic on TGP I read other day where the guy was asking for a boutique version of the OCD. I saw that, and promptly ignored. Some of the threads there are like HC is more like the corner bar, or the tv show "Cheers" Things are a lot more serious over at TGP... many times too serious. I like both places, though... nice to have options

Members DaveinLondon
I'm a regular reader and occasional poster at TGP. Some great players and working pros on there: David Torn, Ken Rosser, Pete Thorn, Lucidology etc. Too much blues/classic rock gets discussed for my taste. The interesting topics seem to drop off pretty quickly.
