Bump for the night crew. And because I would rather play on hcfx than grade papers

Since this may be one of the only times I go to Vegas, I would prefer a room facing the strip. Is it best to try and get that ahead of time or negotiate that at check in?

piano bar in NY NY

A friend of mine plays at that - he's been doing it for years. Talented dude - I'd definitely recommend this.

Subs has the right idea. Spend your days on golf and the pool, and your wife in the spa... set aside a specific amount to gamble. If you win, use THAT to gamble with and put your original money aside. When your winnings (or original cash) is depleted, you are DONE gambling. Look on those funds as analogous to the money you used to spend in a video game arcade... disposable and not coming back.

If you book far enough in advance, and if you do weekdays and avoid the weekends, you can usually score some pretty good room deals in Vegas. Most of the larger hotels are good.

Oh well I've been before. I can tell you a few stops I enjoyed, though this is entirely from drunk memory.

Carnegie Deli was great. the {censored}in sammiches are unreal. I posted a pic of that earlier. {censored}en mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I like slushie rum drinks when its 120 out (went in august) so I had lots of those. Delicious. the casinos are to be expected. Mirage was cool to gamble at, tipped decent the servers will pile on the drinks for free, thats cool. I went to that Seigfried and Roys secret garden. that was super lame. the lions looked sad. I felt really bad. Though it could have been the booze making me emotional. Then there was this place in Caesar's palace mall it was like a scotch and cigar bar. holy fudge that was good times. good scotch good cigars. classy time. the bellagio fountain thing is good for gettin the chicks bangin while looking into their smitten face. be sure to pretend you just robbed a casino with brad {censored}in pitt (dreamboat). easy bangin.

Pool was nice at Planet Hollywood where we stayed, the rooms where nice too. I was in the Braveheart room so Mel Gibson was all over the room. Huge turn-on. I went to some club one night (pure?), it was a {censored}in dude stew. I got the {censored} outta there. I'm not into that {censored}. bunch of dudes in a circle bangin their cocks on a chick. "If I hit my dick in just the right place, maybe she'll stop pretending I'm not there". {censored} that.

I Also went to some aquarium somewhere, closed that place down. chillin at the end with the tour guide girls, one chick loved those damn sting rays so much. she'd like stroke it and talk about how smart they were and how they mother {censored}in took down steve erwin. {censored}in bangin.

I want to see Beatles Love and other things, as I mentioned, maybe this trip, though our time is divided between drinking and strippers so we will see.

And how could I forget the most important attraction of them all

pawnstar6.jpg

Pawn Stars was the biggest joke in Vegas. Gotta line around the building during the week when the guys from the show are actually there. A cop is outside letting so many in at a time so you gotta wait for people to walk out before you can get in. Just nobody staffers there on the weekends but still a line. There is the two views from the show that makes the place look big, it's not. They barely have anything in the place other than jewelery cases. The rest is full of Pawn Stars shirts, ashtrays, shot glasses, key chains.... I haven't watch the show since walking out of the place.

We just cruised the strip to sight see; drank on Freemont, had a ton of fun with cheap drinks to boot.

the "free drink" thing is real, but I found that if you tip even just a dollar, the free drinks appear more frequently.

You ought to be doing that, anyhow. That's how the waitresses make their money.

I had fun last time I was in Vegas. We were on tour, played a place called Beauty Bar on the Old Strip, stayed on the Old Strip, and gambled on the Old Strip. Everything was cheap and a lot of fun. The casino we were at had $2 Black jack tables. And $1 Pabst if you just wanted to drink. I spent more money than I should have considering I was on tour, but not a whole lot and I was absolutely {censored}faced when I staggered up the strip to our hotel in the early morning sunlight with my last beer in my hand. Us and High on Fire really made quite the entrance when we finally rolled into San Diego the next day.

What's your take on the old strip? I can imagine that Pike is a {censored}ing monster once he gets going. Sounds like fun times.

I had a really good time. It's got a more laid back, blue collar vibe to it. Which is the kind of guy I am, I guess. $2 Black Jack tables mean that I can spend more time losing my money and drinking for free, considering my lack of skills at the aforementioned game.

Pike was hilarious. He gave me a 10 minute lecture on the virtues of Pai Gow and how it's a sure winner, told me to watch and learn, walked up to the table with $60, and returned back to us less than a minute later $60 lighter.

I never took one drink I didn't tip at least a buck or two for. I'd bet they can smell a flake a mile away and anyone who thinks they're going to fool them and sit there getting drunk completely for "free" is misguided. I was hammered the whole time I was in Vegas (5 days), it was a blast walking around the streets with a drink in my hand the whole time. I felt like Julien from the Trailer Park Boys

I love being able to drink on the street. It's one of the many reasons that Savannah is one of mah favorite towns. Plus it's a good day any time I can act like the boys from Sunnyvale.

Never met the guy, but that sounds about right.

As for the old strip I'm with you - I'm more of a laid back type of guy, but I am (and will probably always be) disguised as a suburban pseudo yuppie with the wife since she likes being 'fancy.' More research must be done. Maybe I will do most of my gambling there, then stay at the strip and be fancy with the wife the rest of the time.

awesome, you're gonna looove Vegas

if it's still there, check out Qourks Place Bar (I think I got that right), it's a based on the bar from Deep Space Nine, all the staff are in character/costume.

wear some comfortable shoes (more for your lady than you) because walking the strip is a long, long walk. I spent 5 days on the new strip and wasn't bored, lots to do.

Don't go. Just don't. There's so much nicer ways to spend an amazing time and bone the {censored} out of your sweetie, especially if you're going to spend the kind of money it takes to go to vegas. Imagine the splendors of nature you could see somewhere else. Or the amazing magical beaches you could go to and eat awesome food and stay in a rad hotel with a beautiful view. But if you must, make friends with the dealers. Moswt of them are really helpful to someone who is kind and treats them like a human being. They have strict rules and cameras watching them to make sure they follow the rules, but they can say anything they want. "Should i hit or stay?" You ask. I would definitely hit on that, they'll tell you. And they're often right. Be cool and tip people and they'll be cool to you, and even if you lose money, which you will, it'll be more fun, and you might not lose as much. Or you'll at least get more free drinks.

I'm going this weekend and did some research. Last time I was there was 2006 so alot has changed. Here's some of my "to do" list

1. the nuclear testing museum. Back in the day the people at the hotels would watch the explosions..trippy

2. The aquarium at silverton hotel.. 117,000 gallons! ( yeah I loves me some fish)

3. The classic car exhibit at imperial palace over 300 cars and only like 9 bucks to get in.

4. The pinball hall of fame , 200 games some of them from the 40's and yeah you can play them

5. pole position indoor karting. an indoor go kart track, with karts that go 45 mph.

just part of my list. I also want to check out ed roman guitars..if that's still around. yeah he might have been a dick but he has some unusual pieces. Anyhoo, enjoy your trip!

It was nothing special. I went in 2005, I think. Bought a Tele. Nice staff. I'm not sure what happened after he died, but I think that the storefront had already been closed for a while.

I heard Cowtown guitars is pretty cool.

actually if you're gambling FOR the free drinks... my buddy does the AT THE BAR video poker. You put in $10, and pretend to play, and you're right there at the bar ordering as many drinks as you can pound.

Came in to post this. You can play a surprisingly long time on $20. You'll get way more than $20 in free drinks, even if you do tip $1 per.

And you say you'll be there "several days". Consider one of the all-suites options, or whatever have a kitchen or kitchenette. We stayed at Vdara, which is an all condo-style hotel. Full kitchen. HUGE rooms. TV in every room, including the bathroom. One of my fondest craps...

You can stock up your own bar as soon as you get there and heat up left overs after you get sick of over paying for dinner and lunch everyday.

Did you miss not having a casino on site, or did you just go over to the Aria? How were the views, it seems like they would be amazing since it's set back from the strip a bit.

I have been fighting back and forth about staying at the Aria, Vdara, and Planet Hollywood (for a rad Bellagio fountain view room). Vdara has nice ass rooms and insane views for cheaper than a lot of places on the Strip. The Aria is very nice and has a casino on site. Planet Hollywood has good views and more of a 'party' thing going on, which is strangely appealing to me despite the fact that neither of us like clubs or the people that tend to go to them :idk:

This...

I went for 5 nights a few years ago and loved it, but the Strip was for all the megabucks, duckfaced wives and dudes with linnen suits crowd. We spent a lot of our "playing" time at the old strip and had a lot more fun, its got more character and the locals were awesome. The Strip was great for the wow factor and all that though...
