Fremont is pretty seedy. It's a completely different experience than the strip. Worth a trip for a couple of hours, I suppose. Blackjack is much cheaper there. On the strip, blackjack starts at $10 a hand usually.

As for your timeline, four nights in Vegas is a
long
time.

Truth! You don't want to get caught empty-handed.

That makes me sad. I really love the old Vegas {censored}, so I was hoping it was still nice. We may head out to Binion's to eat at their steak house (heard it was good) and play a couple games just for the experience then head back to the strip.

The wife also wants to shop - which is probably how I will end up with extra gambling money. The forum shops are supposed to be really nice - anywhere else that she would get all excited about?

Wow - I never knew that you could play craps without dropping {censored}loads of cash. And $10 isn't bad on blackjack. Just means I should probably save up a bit more for games.

I actually forgot about the free drinks. Don't worry...I would NEVER turn down a free drink

The mall in Caesars. I think Brad and Angelina had it shut down so they could privately shop there. She'll love it. My girl does. Tell her to bring far more than you are bringing for gambling.

edit: the forum (i didn't know that is what its called.) yes that is the best place. next stop would be: http://www.bellagio.com/shopping/via-bellagio.aspx

take her for one of these at the Carnegie Deli:

its like a cow with a cracker on either side

anything else? yeah a loaf of bread and some people

what kind of bread? banana.

what kind of chesse? cottage

{censored} you get out, I'm not making a banana bread cottage cheese pastrami sandwich, that will severely ruin my reputation.

That's what I figured. Lucky for me (I think) she loves going to fancy {censored} like that, but is usually pretty apprehensive about dropping a bunch of money on stuff. We will probably just take a chunk of money and split it so she can buy something nice and I can recklessly loose my portion at the tables.

you sound like you're familiar with gambling so i doubt i have to say it but its always good to set a loss limit AND a win limit.

when i was in college i took $100 to a roulette table in vegas. in less than an hour i turned it into $2400. as i was walking to the cashier to get my money i stopped at another roulette table. i lost $2400 in just under 20 mins.

punch to the gut/kick to the balls sickening. haven't done anything that stupid since. now i always have a win limit. if i get to that, i leave.

^^ were you tipping the Croupier?

What's really sad is all of the classic strip casinos have been demolished. My wife and I used to love going to Stardust. It was seedy, but it had cheap tables and cheesy lounge acts. That's where the famous "double down" scene in Swingers was shot. Now it's gone.

For shopping: the Forum Shops in Caesar's, and Fashion Show Mall right across the street from the Venetian.

Thanks for that. I {censored}ing love gambling, but I have never managed to find myself in a casino, so the win limit thing may have been a problem for me.

I did something similar in online poker once - nothing that extreme (read: far less money and profit margin) but I went on a run and won several big hands but ended up losing it all in one hand because I just didn't quit when I should have.

My stepdad seems really fond of roulette - I have never played it though. Is it worth learning to play while there?

And how could I forget the most important attraction of them all

That is really sad. I'm sure there is a Vegas museum somewhere in town, right? Maybe I should just check that out and not ruin 'old' Vegas for myself forever.

Thanks for the shopping tips as well. I'm sure my wife will appreciate it.

Roulette is fun, and pretty simple. There are little cards all over the casino that show you the roulette layout.

Always tip the croupier. Roulette isn't as random as people think.

Craps has the best odds in a casino. Blackjack is second. Pretty much all blackjack in Vegas is now played with six decks.

I'm not sure if you or your wife are into slots, but if so, stay away from the quarter machines. Stick with the dollar ones. Same goes for video poker/blackjack at the bars.

Craps is fun as hell and you can limit yourself to 10 bucks per play... or go big and have 100 on the table. you should be able to find most table games at about $10 per hand min. off the strip you might find $5 per hand.

the general rule is to have a good time you'll need 20x whatever the minimum bet is. so if its $10 black jack, play with 200.

the poker tourneys are everywhere and cheap... or you can just sit at a no lim table for a long time and get free drinks. that is the most important part about gambling,
never turn down the free drink. even if you're only halfway done with the last one.

the "free drink" thing is real, but I found that if you tip even just a dollar, the free drinks appear more frequently.

Roulette is fun and simple, no need to learn, just walk up, get some dollar chips and pick some numbers. It also has (i believe) the worst odds in the house. So you play it just for {censored}s and grins and free drinks. I gave up roulette when i started playing craps.

The great think about ANY game is that the dealers will HONESTLY help you figure it out. Another recently found game for me that is great for "i can't sleep at 2am and want to drink but don't want to lose a lot of money" is Pai Gow. You can play for a long time on $100 and get drink after drink after drink. The dealers will help you make every hand the best and most often you tie and don't lose any money. Its actually pretty rad.

If you just want free drinks, then play Kino. It's like a $2 bet every twenty minutes*.

*plus the dollar tip for each drink

actually if you're gambling FOR the free drinks... my buddy does the AT THE BAR video poker. You put in $10, and pretend to play, and you're right there at the bar ordering as many drinks as you can pound.

True, but I find that if I play video poker, I frequently end up losing more than I would've spent on cocktails.

They do usually keep an eye on you to make sure your playing, and you have to play $1. Quarter bets don't count.

Dealers are really that helpful? I never considered that - but it makes sense since they get tips as well.

I've heard of Pai Gow but know nothing about it. I will do a bit of research on it as well.

Acid + Cirque du Soleil

when I saw "O", I honestly felt like I was tripping, hard. the lost at sea scene was unreal, couldn't believe my eyes. the music for the show was perfect and I thought it was canned. it wasn't until the show was over and we were leaving that I noticed the orchestra, up to the side behind tinted glass, like I said my mind was completely blown.

Touche. And do the dollar machines tend to be looser? Neon sign graveyard sound rad as {censored}.

It's not that they're looser, it's that it's extremely rare to even win back your money on a quarter machine. With a dollar bet, it's easier to recover what you put in, as well as come out ahead simply because the payouts are bigger. So, say you put $20 into a machine. Thats 80 quarters or 20 dollars. If you're playing quarters and do max bet ($1.50), and you hit the lowest payout (30), then you win 30 quarters ($7.50). On a dollar slot, if you bet max ($3), and hit the lowest payout, you've just won $30, so you're already ahead of what you put in. Did that make sense?

Plus, it's more fun to win $1000 than 1000 quarters.

About restaurants...of course there are a ton of big name chefs with restaurants in the hotels. I assume that these must be both amazing and expensive. Any reason to look elsewhere for nice dinners?

Yep makes sense. I doubt I will play more than a few minutes, but my wife will probably play them. So hopefully she pulls through and wins something.
