Phil O'Keefe
My friend Dennis built one of those a few years ago for himself, and we've used it at a few gigs. It's actually ideal for smaller, acoustic type gigs in smaller venues, and it actually sounds pretty darned good.

Members joncyberboy
I didn't know it was a trend. We use it on one song in my band where the drummer and I develop a running rhythmic theme and have a kind of jam and its always a highlight of the set. If however I was just hitting along with a pattern already being played then it;d just be a gimmick, but its a musical tool being used. Where's the problem? Members MrChrisos
I'm not reading all 6 pages, but: I play a tom along with a synth part. It's a big track with orchestral percussion, so the extra Tom does make a difference. Ideally we'd have 2 drummers (1 kit, 1 orchestral), but budget doesn't permit (we've got 2 cellists as it is). Thankfully our drummer specialises in Kit and Orchestral, so we can cover all bases.
