Meh, I go by how much it made me want to play, and during my ownership of my Stiletto, I thought to myself "either I can sit and tweak with this amp forever and still not have a sound I like, or I can plug into my little Vox and play some damn guitar."

:D

Vox AC30 TBX

1968 Fender Bassman Head

1976 Marshall JMP 2204

Honestly its kind of a toss up between my Fender stage 100 and my 1959 bassman reissue. Sure the Bassman was a better amp, 10's just REALLY aren't my thing.

Peavey Bandit 112 (RAWK!!!)

it would also help to say what kind of music you play. one amp that works the best for a metalhead might not work the best for say, a clapton afficionado. That said, i'm about right in the middle with some pretty heavy alt/hard rock.

Tube amps

Marshall JMP-1/Mesa Classic 50-50

Mesa/Boogie DC-3 (combo)

Carvin X100-B (head)

Solid State

Roland Micro Cube

Kustom 250 head/cab (2x15)

Marshall VS30 Valvestate (combo)

Behringer GM110

I really miss my DC-3. It was a good amp but I could never get it to sound good when I turned it up. :(

I don't really like the idea of ranking mine due to liking different things about the different amps for what sounds I was trying to get at the times I've had each amp.

That said, I'd put the 5150 and Ultra Plus (each with an eq in the fx loop) as well as the 6L6 versions I've had of the X100B (with tubescreamer boost) close together in a 3-way first place tie.

The Sansamp PSA-1 preamp going through the Roland JC-120 would be a close 2nd place tie with the Behringer V-Amp 2 and V-Ampire amp going into the fx loop return of the Ultra Plus amp.

The Behringer V-Ampire amp on its own might be 3rd place close to 2nd.

A Marshall I used to have (pretty sure it was a JCM-800 model) would be in 4th place and was surprisingly lame, IMO. Not knocking all those '80s Marshalls, but the one I had... Maybe in a tie would be the old solid state Princeton Chorus amp I got around '90 or '91; not bad for SS at all, IMO.

The Rockmaster preamp going through various fx loops likely would fit at 5th place and might make a good backup for the V-Amp or the Sansamp PSA-1 preamp (if I still had one of those).

Some old Crate 212 combo I had would rank close to a couple Rage amps I've had but louder -- tying for 6th place.

7th place would go to my SS Rockbug tiny practice amp.

Last place would go to the EL34 version of the X100B amp I currently have. If it didn't have a good clean channel, which amazingly doesn't even seem to take pedals well, I'd already have thrown it away. This was my most disappointing amp purchase. :(

Edit: Oh, crap; I forgot the blackface '65 Bassman I had; I'd rank it fairly high for a great clean that breaks up easily, but at the time I had it I wasn't after the type of tone it was great at or I'd still have it.

1. Soldano Decatone -> Soldano 4x12

2. Mesa Boogie Road King -> Traditional 4x12

3. Mesa Boogie Triaxis/ 2:90 -> Oversized Recto cab with C90's.

4. Mesa Boogie Tremoverb -> Oversized Recto cab with C90/V30 X pattern.

5. Mesa Boogie Rectoverb -> Oversized Recto cab with C90's.

6. Marshall AVT20.

I was a loyal Boogie guy for a long time, and still love them. I want a Triaxis setup and an early Rectifier again someday!! But the Soldano just kicks my ass every time I plug into it.

1a. Rivera Knucklehead Tre' head.

3.B-52 AT-100 head

4. Peavey Bravo 112

5. Fender Super 210

5a. Fender Twin Reverb with JBL's (60 or 80 watt version,

from the 70's, I think).

6. Randall half stack from 80's (model forgotten).

7. Epiphone ValveKing head

8. Vox AD30

9. Roland Cube 60 (the old Orange version)

10. Washburn PG15R ( almost the worst amp I ever owned).

11. The first amp I had was a five watt beast with a 5 inch speaker. Literally not worth the particle board it was made from. The model and make I can't remember...)

Crate 15watt SS Practice Amp... Bad

Fender Hot Rod Deville... Good clean, bad overdrive

Carvin Legacy... OK clean, a little less than OK overdrive

Marshall JCM800 4104 2x12 combo... The best overdrive, no clean, don't care.

I roll the volume back, and/or play soft for clean, and it sounds great. Marshall single channel amps with a boost is where it's at!
