I play mainly heavy stuff so this is based on that. www.myspace.com/eighthnerveuk

Best to not best:

Engl Powerball

Rocktron Prophesy + Mesa Recto 2:100

Peavy 5150 Mk 2

Engl Savage

Marshall JMP 1977 (wish I'd kept it!! This was my first real valve amp. I didn't know much about amps when I had this, it had all different valves in it, no matched pairs, I'm surprised it didn't blow up!)

Cabs:
Genz Benz G-Flex 4x12 (Just used with the Engls)

Marshall JCM 900 Lead loaded with Celestion V30's (used this with all the amps and it sounded pretty good)

Marshall 1960 TV with Greenbacks. (used this with the 5150 and the Marshall. Great for more vintage and blues rock tones but not that good for heavier styles)

Guytron GT100

Diezel Einstein

Vox handwired AC30 (must have Bulldog speakers or alnico blue)

Matchless Lightning 15 2x10 combo

Budda SuperDrive 30

This is not too difficult:

H&K zenTera combo
Marshall JCM900 1/2 stack
Mesa Boogie Mk2b combo
Ampeg V4 full stack
Plush 1000g
Fender Bandmaster '62
Fender Bassman '62
Fender Bandmaster w/verb '68
Johnson JM60
Rheem Califone
my old Grundeg console stereo

That is the sum total of all amps I've ever owned in 44 years of playing. I still have the zenTera and Johnson...anyone want to buy a Johnson JM60 with J8 pedal board?

The only ones that I'd take back are the JCM900 and Boogie, and I'd still keep the zenTera.

My current amp stable does it for me, which is why the ponies are all still there (top to bottom - Doberman Hi-Octane, Mesa Trem-o-verb '93, VHT 50CL, Mesa F-100 2x12 combo):

hal9000_Amp_Stable.jpg

Since I use each of them for different things, I just choose the one I like best for the task at hand. That said, if I only could have one amp, my F-100 would be it.

Damn dude. I remember you not liking it but I can't believe the VH4 is that far down the list. After the Flextone?

Hmmm....

10 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, my first tube amp, sounded good, but sterile, needed something with more gain.

13 Marshall AVT-150 head with Marshall AVT 4x12, my first halfstack, did the job at the time, sold it for the Sovtek.

14 Crate Blue Voodoo with same Marshall AVT 4x12, I was young and stupid, thankfully it blew up on me at the first gig I played with it and it went back to Guitar Center. Continued to use the AVT.

6 Sovtek Mig-60 with cheap Ampeg 4x12, found it at a pawn shop, obviously needed new tubes but I never bothered. Sounded awesome with an overdrive.

3 Hughes & Kettner Duotone with Avatar 2x12 with Eminence speakers (dont remember what kind), I loved this amp. It sounded incredible but it just wasn't reliable enough. Maybe I had a lemon, but it was in the shop for four months out of the six or eight that I owned it, so out the door it went.

7 Mesa/Boogie Rect-O-Verb with JCM800 1960b, I can't remember too much about this amp, except that I didn't really like it for the fast palm muting stuff my band was doing at the time. Only later would I realize that I just really hate G12T75s.

8 ADA MP-1/Mesa 50/50 with JCM800 1960b, great 80s Marshall sound, even with the 6L6s in the power amp. Upgraded to a JMP-1.

9 Marshall JMP-1/Mesa 50/50 with JCM800 1960b, thought I would like it better than the ADA, but didn't. Sold it shortly after buying it and bought the Mark IV.

2 Mesa/Boogie Mark IV with Mesa Oversized 4x12, {censored}ing awesome is all I can really say. Did everything great, regret selling it but needed the money.

5 Peavey 5150 combo, heaviest thing ever, obviously great high gain, didn't have it for too long, never played a gig with it, but got the best recorded high gain sound I ever got when recording guitars myself with it.

Marshall DSL100 with Avatar 2x12 with V30s, I was borrowing the head from a friend for a while, sounded great but I couldn't see myself permanently owning one.

4 Randall RM100+Ultra Lead, Plexi mods with JCM800 1960a, My current amp, plan on changing the speakers in the Marshall cab as soon as possible. Sounds like a Marshall on drugs, it's awesome.

12 Fender Cyber Deluxe, I used it as a practice amp when I had the H&K, wasn't really worth owning but didn't sound bad.

11 Epiphone Valve Jr. Combo, I like it for $99. Cool fuzz with the volume cranked.

1 THD Univalve, probably my favorite amp ever.

1) Gibson GA60RV
2) Fender Blues Junior
3) Mesa Boogie blue angel or devil, I forget.. rented it for a while, was great but lacked character
4) Roland Jazz Chorus (2x10 model, rented it for a while, loved it but longed for tubes.. ran my acoustic through it once and while and it sounded great)
5) Vox AC30 (totally croaked on me during a tour had it for just over a year)
6) Fender Twin
7) Fender Jazz King
8) Peavey Bandit
9) Ampeg something or other (another rental, 30 watts class A, no reverb.. nothing.. had a bright control and the amp was dark sounding)
10) Line 6 Flextone II (Seperate head and 4x12 Line 6 cab.. f'ing sucked and was complicated to use. Kept it for a long time - a few years but never liked it, ever)
