If you read back through my posts about such things you'll find that I'm an equal opportunity poster. The first bailout to save the banks was I'll concede necessary (I didn't support it at the time) but we couldn't let the banks fail but it was executed so poorly that I'll still say that Bush, Paulson, Geitner, and the rest should all be locked up. It comes down to this. You protect you currency base (your banks) and everything else can fail. That's sound economic thinking. When we bailed out the banks with TARP there was no strings attached. I've been hugely critical of what the banks did with the money and I'm still very critical of the fact that the economy is languishing because the bulk of the jobs in our economy are being provided by small business and those small businesses aren't getting any help. I was out at my former employer just yesterday. He's frantically trying to tap new markets to get some cash flow going because he can't get any money from the banks. His lines of credit just dried up a year or so ago and haven't come back. Same with his suppliers and customers. Other CEO's are getting benefits like stock options anyway, so a one dollar salary is still conserving $.Besides, no matter how much money I already had, I wouldn't seriously take a job that only paid a dollar per year, and wouldn't expect anyone else to. That really depends on the company, an executive with a $1 salary gets far more in terms of stock options and other benefits than one who takes a standard salary. It's also typically the executive's choice in how they take the salary; the $1 choice is popular in the US because it means you only pay the lower capital gains tax. I believe he's a marxist. He went to a Black Marxist church for 20 years. That being said, if you want to fix the economy which TARP was supposed to do you need to fix the fundamental problem, which is lack of capital. TARP was supposed to address that. The government gave the banks money and the banks waited around till banks that didn't get the money were tanking and bought them. Then they hung on to the rest. The money isn't getting out into the economy. Even consumer credit cards are being chopped. All my cards were cut to whatever my balance owed was. That was all Bush. So what Obama has done has been primarily nationalization of several major industries under the guise of stimulus which is purely marxist. I don't care why they said they did it, the fact that the US government now ownes a controlling interest in 2 of the 3 US auto makers and the fact that the labor unions are the other biggest controlling intrest is decidedly marxist. It's all pretty interesting from an intellectual standpoint. We're just standing around letting it happen because nobody is willing to let their ideology go long enough to take a dispassionate look at what's really going on. I eat lunch at whole foods all the time. I really just do that and buy beer there. I do like the store though. They do treat employees well though. My sister works for them for 4 hours a week on Sundays though. She gets 20% off all her groceries - including beer/wine.
