I almost bought the T2 til I saw they had the V2 for not too much more. It's all the extra EQ options really that clinched it for me. I'm a control freak like that.

And personally, I'd keep the Randall over the Marshall. Both are great heads, but the T2's got much more of it's own vibe and character. Plus it's just a meaner head typically. Marshalls can do that too...but they usually need a little extra boost, and some serious volume to get their.

Cyclone over 5150II is a tough call. Both are equally great, just different flavors. Me, I'm not giving up my Cyclone for nothing this time. I know better now. Hheheh

Thanks for the offer on the eq..may have to look that one up. Didn't know they cloned one! HA! I may keep my eye out for the mxr 10 band though. The Randall sounds so much better through the marshall cab than the genz...i think the T2 is just so damn bass heavy that theres no need for any help in that department from the cab. It shakes the whole damn house!

I play my Randalls through Eminence Swamp Thangs loaded in a Marshall 1960B cab. Sounds massive, but balanced. Plus the Swamps are great at taming that super high-end fizz that solid-state can sometimes produce. Plus they don't fart out on the lows, ever! So you can dial your EQ more freely. I always thought they we're a perfect match for the Randalls...especially with the high power handling as well.

I actually used to have a Genz Benz 2x12 myself...the older version. I ran it for quite awhile with my original Cyclone head, and the aforementioned 4x12 underneath it. Sound was just monstrous! But in a good way...though I can see how it could be overwhelming in some scenarios. Was a great cab, and I regret that I had to sell it (needed rent at the time). But the Swamp loaded cab still shined more for the Cyclone head.

If your interested in the EQ, lemme know. I'm letting it go cheap. Could be just the thing to clean up and tame your low end issues if you put it through the loop. thumb.gif

I've decided that my next amp will be a Randall. I was thinking about buying a Commander RG 120 PH. Is the Commander 210 the combo equivalent of the RG 120 PH? How does this amp compare with the RG 100 ES (HT) heads? What is the difference between an ES and HT? Also, what does the PH stand for on the Commander amp (where there other Commander RG 100 versions)? I haven't been able to play either of these models in person, but from listening to Nirvana's Bleach (done with the Commander) and Pantera's CBH (RG100ES /RG100HT), I like the Commander's sound better. Although with studio recordings, it's hard to tell how the amp really sounds because of all the effects added at the mixing and mastering stages.

Thanks,

-Adam

I'm full MTS these days - Mesa gear is up for sale

RM20 combo at home

RM50 combo for the band (running through a Mesa 2x12" sometimes)

Mods:

Blackface

Plexi

Top Boost

SL+

Grail

Ultra

Plus another Plexi I'm thinking of getting turned into a Stonerverb by Salvation mods, and I wouldn't mind selling the Ultra to get an XTC.

I even scored a Randall module bag on eBay for

I just got my new RD50 Diavlo head and I'm really digging it.It's surprisingly versatile and feels solidly built.Sounds especially sweet through my Celestion G12K-100 loaded Lopo Large Slant 1-12 cab.According to Randall, the RD50's clean mode is based on the Clean MTS module and the overdrive/boost mode is based on the Ultra MTS module.

I love my 1986 RG100ES. Had it for a long time now. Several tube amps have come and gone and the Randall is still here and remains my main amp for gigging, recording, everything. Reason being: it's got a very unique, pissed off vibe to it, which i have made into my own sound. Everything else i've tried sounds too polite or generic sounding compared to it. I REALLY want to try a Cyclone, although i owned a Warhead and didn't care for it... wondering how similar they are?

Here's some setting's porn from my V2 and Cyclone heads:

Settings-V2.jpg

I use the SS channel for rhythm, and the Tube for leads/melodic lines. Also, the SS channel is boosted slightly via my GSP1101. Also I tend to use models in the GSP1101 for cleans as well.

Settings-Cyclone.jpg

Again, I use the GSP1101 via 4-cable method to do cleans here. But I use the OD channel for all my high gain patches (for lead patches, I use a parametric EQ to roll off some lows, and give a slight mid-boost) with this head. No boosting is needed with this beast.

how do the Cyclone and Rg100es compare in tone, thickness. I understand that the cyclone has more gain, though is it just as thick as a boosted 100es? Is the gain really dry and or buzzy and can it doe a mid gain, thick tone without thinning out. Looking at both at "drop A" tuning....
