Members panhandler
What's a good Strummer in the $1k range? One that you can strum the hell out of and it not become muddy sounding.
Members OldGuitarPlayer
I'd hazard a guess and say the Martin D-16 series? Like the D-16GT? http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Martin-D16GT-Dreadnought-Acoustic-Guitar?sku=514749 I strum, flatpick and fingerpick on my Martin 000-15 and I am surprised how well it can do all three. Of course it's not a "cannon" but it works for what I need.
Members knockwood
D-16GT is a hottie. I'd also check out the Guild DV4 and DV6. Dude doing this demo accidentally refers to the DV6 (2nd demo) as the DV4. I prefer the mahogany 4 - a little brighter and clearer to my ears. Very nice strummed tone, IMO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E2oOu_XzEY
Members panhandler
I was kinda thinking Guild. The rosewood one (2nd) sounded best to me. I dont just wanna strum, I wanna beat the hell out of it!
Members fastblueheeler
You could look for a used Guild D-25. They like to be played hard. But mahogany only I think.
Members rhancox
I fancy myself a pretty good strummer. I'll strum for you for $1000.

Members Danner
A Yamaha FG750s (sapele) would be a good choice. Dreadnaught bright with good bass and balance. And with the sapele, it will stay bright. Unfortunately, it only costs about $500.

Members guildfire
And Guild dread will hold up to hard strumming. They are built like tanks and "Made to be Played".

Members Misha
Guild GAD-50; Martin D16 series (ask Kwakatak about that one!!) http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Guild-GAD50-Acoustic-Design-Series-Dreadnought-Guitar-?sku=512094
Members Jimmy Chaos
Guild JF30 I was going to say this. Jumbo is the way to go for heavy strumming (bigger top - more effort to make it vibrate) I'm a heavy strummer and I find dreadnought shaped guitars start to sound muddy when I dig in. I'd Look at the Guild GAD JF30 or the Washburn J28 SDL
