What was your obsession before guitars?

Excluding women (or the opposite sex) (or same sex if that's your thing) as a given,

I guess for me it was guns.

Never got a license to kill and where I live the entire county is all fenced off. So much for that hobby. Guitars seemed more beneficial.

And not rich enough to hoard cars.

What was yours?

I was 14 when I started playing guitar, so I don't know, pickin my nose? Trying to burn {censored} in my awesome pubescent destructive phase? I did read a lot, but I figured pretty quick that wasn't gonna bring the tang. Of course years later, and guitar never really worked for that either.

During high school it was my Camaro. While I still have it, I can't really do what I want to do with it until I'm done with college. More recently, it's been my motorcycle and riding gear. In fact, I'm due for a new helmet

I've actually got dirt bike bars on it now and they're much more comfortable than the drag bars

I got into the guns before the guitars too. I never really enjoyed killing critters, and shooting targets became boring. I started playing guitar when I was in my teens, and quit for quite awhile due to other important life and work stuff. Then we had a guy transfer into my work group that was really into guitars, and he got me hooked again. Still have my guns, which I am seriously thinking about turning into guitars:thu:

Me too!

I have a 12 gauge, .22 rifle, those got plenty of use in my youth, but then the 3 handguns I bought later in life have practically never been used.

Only did a little bird hunting and I always felt real sorry for the ones that were still looking at you when you walked up to them.

Big brown ducky eyes.

o man I was half traumatized by that too. The worst ones were birds you just winged a little bit. I told myself a racoon would get them if I let them go

Looks like a cool ride.

Be careful you don't poke your eye out with that thing. :D

I've had three bikes.

BMW R27

Yamaha 650 &

Yamaha XS1100

Still have the 1100, but since it's a '79, it seems like something is always broke on it.

Didn't get around to riding it at all last year.

Just a broken throttle cable. It was fun getting home that day! I felt like Wiley Coyote riding the Acme Jet home that day. The throttle was stuck wide open, and then I'd hit the kill switch, then I'd flip the switch back to run again, it would back fire and hurtle me up to about 70 again, before I'd have to hit the kill switch again and coast back down.

Luckily I was only about 3 miles from home when the cable broke.

Boom, zip, coast

Boom, zip, coast, etc.

Never have gotten to ride a crotch rocket of your bikes caliber.

Er. Boxing, watching cartoons, eating sweets and playing with my toys. I started at 11, so i didn't have much time to like stuff.

Obviously i was into music, so i suppose my obsession was... air guitar. Man, my air rig was the shizzle.

I don't really know, my old man was in a band so I was pretty obsessed with wanting to play, even though I didn't really pick it up until I was about 14. He wouldn't teach me a damn thing, he always said 'learn your chords'. I understand why now, but at the time I didn't. By then I was into metallica and stuff like that so it wasn't like he was going to show me what I wanted.

Before that, I guess fixing stuff, I always preferred a broken toy over a new one, hell still do. That would probably be my first obsession to this day, if something is broken I won't rest until I fix it.

The old lady digs it, even most of her friends are jealous of my 'skills;' most of their husbands just pay to get stuff done. I never understood that, growing up if we needed a plumber or electrician, that was my dad. I thought that was how things were supposed to be.

bicycles

radio controlled airplanes/cars

comic books

motorcycles

houses

clothes

drugs

travelling

education

stereo equipment

books

There are some more, but you get the idea. I usually go from one to the other, and then back, to something new.

I'm thinking about getting back into RC planes. Flying is okay, but the real joy is in the making. Or maybe try my hand at RC boats. Or maybe even a real boat. That would be really cool! :thu:

I started playing at 16 but Before guitar it was hackey sack and soccer and drawing comic book guys like spiderman or batman or spawn or maxx a bunch of image stuff, wasnt into girls rather than looking at em and jerkin off at home to porn I wasnt supposed to have...

I like guns too got into it around 24 because of freakin Tactical PC games I only have a few rifles though not into handguns much

recently ive been into guitar gear a whole lot, I never realized stuff like the difference between a tube amp and solid state and the difference between a rosewood and a maple neck sounds etc. If I like a band now I automaticaly look at their amp and pedals and of course guitars though it seems I should have gotten into this when I started playing...
