  1. Why do chambered ones cost less though? Doesnt it take more time and work to hollow out a guitar? i know right, when you see how much routing is involved its like:eek: this is an xray of the chambering on an LP, you can also see how the neck tenon doesnt extend all the way down into the pickup cavity. for you guys that are really interested in this check out the discussion from myLP forums, x-ray pics of different construction methods- http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/gibson-les-pauls/1450-weight-relieve-vs-chambered-2.html
  2. I think the general consensus is they are pretty good. A hell of a lot better than swiss cheesed weight relieved LPs. Apparently gibson put a lot of research and effort into finding a chambered design that would maximize sustain while being resonant. It became necessary to weight relieve them since the newer growth mahogany was more dense and heavy than the old stuff. I am also told that the high density of the wood had a negative effect on resonance. So i think the chambered LP's are a big improvement in construction. Ive heard a lot of players claim they lack the balls of a non-weight relieved, old style long neck tenon construction method, which may be true to some extent, but for that kind of construction you are going to shell out some serious money. My VOS weighs in at 9.5 lbs which i think is more than acceptable for a non weight relieved LP, You can definitely tell the difference between a chambered in every way. If you do decide to get a chambered, make sure to play it first and do a "shake test" some guys over at the mylp forums have complained that there are bits of dried glue or wood trapped inside on the chambers of their LP's
  3. haha! i am watching this one. It says its a USA, has a jackson usa logo on the headstock, a kahler, a possibly krylon 80's spray job. im curious how high this one gets bid up. http://www.ebay.com/itm/80s-jackson-electric-guitar-usa-/300594573408?pt=Guitar&hash=item45fcd53060 well i ended up winning this auction:facepalm: Its a gamble, and i probably ended up paying too much for it, but thats how she goes. hopefully it can be cleaned up and will turn into a decent player. From the research i did, it looks like an older jackson dinky DK1. bolt-on neck H-H. This one has a kahler though:confused:, no routing for a floyd, so it seems like the original tremolo system. The finish looks questionable, at best. but im just gonna go with it. It may be hideous and hard on the eyes but i actually like it. just needs a little tlc.
  4. These guitars do have full size bodies? not like a 7/8 size (dinky style) body? Also, is the routing for the floyd recessed? It kinda hard to tell from the pics.
  5. Well wow 17 hour work day so I didn't get to pull it out and play it yet Guess that helped the SG/LP fund next payday:lol: I wish it wasn't 5 am The black on black with maple fretboard looks awesome!

  7. Damn man, i'm totally jello, Hows she play!!????
  8. So it sounds like the floyd it comes with is a FRT-1000, whats up with this? i hear its not really a german-made OFR
  9. Keith, I happened upon these 2 websites a few weeks ago; www.exit98guitars.com and www.meanstreetguitars.com and they have some really awesome superstrats for decent money. nice some of those meanstreet guitars look pretty good!
  10. I am kinda bothered about the lack of a tone knob, I cant lie, playing les pauls for this long has turned me into a real knob-turner. Its still not a deal breaker for the price. I'm still interested in a used one, ive been looking thru ebay and CL for old jackson/charvels, ESP's kramers, peaveys, etc. so far i really havent found anything that has that curb appeal the MIJ san dimas has.
  11. The ceriatone is one of my favorite amps, very touch sensitive and has a nice "grind" when you push the little EL84s. It doesnt have the low end that my 2204 has, but it will get some serious power amp distortion that i cant get with my 2204. Mine is the TMB version with the added MV, however really i only use the 2-knob channel without TMB and MV.
  12. If you'd build a guitar with the same woods and features, I'd go with the Charvel. If you want to do something a little different with the woods or finish etc, the Warmoth is the way to go. The last thing you want to do is get the Charvel and go "damn, I wish I would have gotten this in cocobolo." Also, make sure you get documentation on the legality of each guitar part. JK. lol yeah, on the warmoth there were a couple additional features, mainly some finish options, which really end up costing a lot of money. also, with a pretty bitchin, optioned-out neck with a half scalloped fret board, which i think the charvel wouldnt have:confused:
  13. Im seriously gassing for an 80s superstrat, All i have now is one of the fattest neck LP's ever made and i really miss getting all noodly and doing divebombs with a floyd. I have been looking at the new offerings from charvel that are MIJ, i like the san dimas mod 1 H-H. At first glance, it seems like a pretty good value, OFR, duncans, and i hear the necks are pretty nice. are they raw/oiled? Any scalloping? :love:the candy blue What can you guys tell me about them? are they as nice as they seem? I was on the warmoth site trying to build a similar guitar, but it would honestly end up costing a tad more with the relatively similar specs.
