I like a nice burst. These days I have been going natural finish as I like to know what I am actually getting wood wise.

For finish...my most recent guitar was a Nat-Explorer. They have the nitro-cellulose finish. I like it though it def' is alot more "dingable" than other finish types. Some folks have "sticky" problems with a nirto type finish. Havent had it at all with this one but had an old Guild S300 that was sticky. I think it has something to do with hand oils and or if the finish was "cured" properly.

In my collection I have:

3 black - strat, parker nitefly, geddy lee bass

1 natural - rickenbacker 650S

1 sunburst - tele

2 red - les paul VM, SG standard

1 quilt (black cherry) - hellraiser

I'd really like a blue guitar and a white guitar eventually.

Depends on the guitar:

- Teles: Natural wood grain finishes

- Strat: Mint green or any of those retro surfy colors.

- Semi-Hollow/Gretsch types: Orange stain (wood grain showing)

- LP: Goldtop, vintagey burst colors (amber or whatever they call it)

What I can't stand:

- Overly busy EVH type multi-colored atrocities.

- Anything shiny with glitter.

- Anything with flames, harleys or such....

Flame away :)

I have pretty similar taste. I'm not too big on the bling bling finishes. I lean toward natural finishes or colors that let the grain show through. Out of my 7 electric guitars, 4 of them have the grain showing.

I love natural finishes but not so much on sunbursts, so I was kind of conflicted when I cast my vote. The only sunburst finish I really like is Fender's sienna sunburst because of the Tex-Mex color palette (green/red) and the high-contrast swamp ash grain that's visible underneath.
