Members Mel Cooley
If it's a good guitar (and you said it was...) then trade it , if it's a piece of crap that could be helped with some modding then go mess with it. There are way too many otherwise good guitars out there with needless mods.
Members waveman
If a guitar feels lifeless, almost no pickups will get that out of your head. I have had tow guitars like this, and no matter what pickups I put in them...that quality I didn't like still was there enough to make me think WTF... Members Judge Groovyman
Maybe it just isn't quite y-o-u and maybe deep down you know it. Looks real nice but I say trade it.
Members Introspectre
I voted trade. If it isn't inspiring now, it probably won't be even if you modify it.

Members 23miles
Another vote for trade. It is a nice guitar, but if it won't or can't speak to you it is best if both you and she split-up and move on. I would trade it in an instant for either of the following: Epi '56 Les Paul RI, PRS Soapbar SE, Gibson LP Faded DC, Ibanez AS-120, or an Epi Casino - either of which speak to me. Members Seeds
If you decide to get rid of it I suggest selling it out right. You will not get near as much trading in that guitar than you will selling it off IMO. You will have more cash on hand to buy aomething else. Members allthumz
Since you are unsure that modifications will make you want to play it more then you should trade for something that turns you on.
Members cybersecretary
trade, sell, you can find something else that inspires you that has 24 fretts.
Members trinilopez
i'd trade it - esp. if you tend toward knopfler/gilmour tones... a pickup upgrade isn't going to get you there...
Members stangme01
I agree i used to own that guitar and you are spot on, everything is great about it except its very uninspiring. ONe of my least favorite schecters. My c-1 hellraiser on the other hand is awesome completely different feel and sounding guitar despite the similar specs. The neck is way different, the guitar is way heavier, the frets are larger (could be good or bad i guess depending on the person).
Members DRPool
So LARacer what did you ever do with this thing? Is it still collecting dust or is there the smell of a new tele in the house?
Members C-4
Sell it. I've had some guitars that were perfectly fine - easy to play, looked great, sounded good but they had to go because I could never bond with them. I don't know what it was.Excellent advice. If you mod it, you will never get back the extra money invested. At that price point, you would be far better off unloading it for something you prefer. Members LAracer
So LARacer what did you ever do with this thing? Is it still collecting dust or is there the smell of a new tele in the house? Well, it went in the spam thread and the "for sale" forum. I asked $350 shipped, which I think is reasonable, although not exactly a steal. I would have budged a bit, but the only offer I got was $325. That's just too low for a guitar that is so nice (IMO). I think that for that price I would have regretted selling it. So I said to hell with it, went against everyone's advice, and bought some new pickups - dream 90 for the neck, dream 180 for the bridge. They should be here hopefully this week. The neck is just so nice, frets so perfect, its hard to let it go for cheap. Maybe if I get it to sound a little nastier it'll speak to me. Stay tuned for a final update with clips. Members Stinkfoot
Those are nice guitars. Like some have mentioned the pickups are the weak link in that model. I think you made a good choice. Seems like you would have regretted letting her go.
Members jerry_picker
Well... what do you think the problem is? If it's the sound, I'll tell you right now it's my opinion that the Duncan Designed pickups that probably came stock with that are the single least inspiring set of pups I've ever experienced. A livelier set of humbuckers will fix that. If it's something else, you may want to get rid of it. I'm not sure how well Schecters retain value, though. Prolly true. Members stangme01
oh so its only the sound that bothers you? Dude its the pickups, with some new pickups you'll love the guitar. Those pickups suck, they are thin and tinny sounding and the JB copy is muddy under gain.

I actually tried a few dozen guitars over the past month (Schecter, Dean, ESP/LTD, Epi, PRS, Ibby, and some Gibsons and Fenders) before I finally pulled the trigger on a Schecter C1+ at the GC sale on Monday. The C1 Elite has the same neck as the Plus I have and if you're ever in the neighborhood of the 24th fret (or even the 21st), then the "ultra-access" set necks on these particular Schecters are the ONLY way to go in my book. I have an Ibanez RG with the rounded heel (bolt on) which offers pretty good access, but is nowhere near as nice as the Schecter. I will agree with others that the stock Duncan Designed pickups are kinda lame/muddy/weak but as far as the feel of the guitar, how easy it plays, and how it looks...it's hard to beat, especially in this price range. Looking forward to hearing some clips with your new pups. I'm considering some GFS pups as well, but am not sure what to get.
Members stangme01
I absolutely love schecters, i have the classic, exotic, and hellraiser c-1s. Its the only guitar that feels like it was made to fit in my hands. No matter what other guitar i've picked up, as much as i liked them none of them seemed molded to my hands like c-1s. ANd all the c-1s sound way different from each other so if you love the feel and shape you also have a bunch of tonal options also. The c1+ is 24.75" scale and 22 frets right?
