  • Which era is the classic Jazzmaster sound?

    I'm looking to get some replacement pickups for my CIJ.

    Pickup descriptions include CBS, 50s, late 50s, 60s, etc....

    I'm not sure which I want? I'd like some balanced, and not too thin/brittle.

    Vintage is okay. I don't want anything too modern or high output.

        i read this a lot across various forums.. might be worth a shout. otherwise Novak and Lollar get mentioned a lot but probably cost as much as a second hand Jazzmaster.

                I've read a lot on the offset forums too. Still unsure.

                I have Rose Picassos in it now. They're sweet, but I'd like to get more of a classic tone out of it.

                Yeah, those a certainly in my price range. Do they compare?

                I = darker

                II = brighter

                ??

                I know pots can change those characteristics too.

                Those eBay pickup builders are in the same range. Pickupwiz, and the others.

                Novaks are heralded as the best, but a little more $$.

                    You might get lucky on Offset Guitars and pick up a secondhand set for cheap. I've got some Novaks for under

                            The best were the hot ones in the Classic Player, IMO.
