  • Kirk Hammet.......

....what happened? You listen to his early solos off Ride, Master, and Justice and think, this guys got potential to be a monster player. Then his solos have progressively gotten worse. How do you play and tour as much as he does and not get better?
You'd think be now he'd be really awesome and up there with EVH, Marty, Paul, ect. Just puzzling to me that he's gone backwards with his playing when it's his way of making a living.
Could it be he just discovered the wha pedal and said **************** it, I'll just wank on this and be done with it???

No, he has never sounded good or even mediocre. Ever.

But hey, he's a millionaire for playing like ****************, so good for him.

solos on justice and RTL are good. to live is to die, shortest straw both have nice solos. RTL (the song) has some epic soloing in it.

The lead for Ride the Lightning is my favorite but even back then he kinda sucked balls. I started listening closely to it one day and realized it was all punched together.
I'm kinda surprised he can pull it off live.

I like his solo on Creeping Death, thought it was pretty bad ass. All I'm wondering is how someone who does it for a living can not kick themselves in the ass and say I gotta step UP my game.

i think AJFA has the worst solos of any of their albums. he wasnt happy with them either as i remember reading he only had two weeks or something

because for reasons unknown to me, metallica can mic up james toilet and record his wet morning ****************, eq it to sound literally even ****************tier than it already does and ****************************s will still buy it and support it

AJFA is the only album he ever showed any imagination on; the solo near the end of "One" is terrific...

                      Then he went all cliche.

I used to give a ****************, but the turd got smaller and smaller until there was no **************** left to give...

Oddly enough, the solos of his that I like tend to be on the newer-ish albums.

Until It Sleeps, Devil's Dance, The Cure, My Friend Of Misery, Sad but True...

Good or not, I love his wah tone and overall use of the pedal. Obviously there are better soloists in thrash than him. But you ask anyone who the lead player for Metallica, and they'll know.

I never understood why "maturing" as a guitarist/musicians/whatever for Kirk meant going from a tasty modal approach to only playing ****************ty blooz-based pentatonic fodder.

Pentatonic shredding with a wah in a metal song = fail
