He's out to lunch, for sure. This is the same guy who changed his name to screw the record company and now he's acting just like them.

Maybe the fact is he's a washed up has been and suffers from a complete disconnect from reality.

He'll be lucky if half the people even have a CD player. ;)

"All these computers and digital gadgets are no good," explains Prince. "They just fill your head with numbers and that can't be good for you."

Yeah, let's not be filling our heads with knowledge. Information is just a trend, it will pass. And knowledge can't be good for you.

He has gotten people posting about this in a music forum, just in time for the release of his new album. Quite smart IMHO, particularly since this is not new. Prince has banned his music from the internet for years now.

And didn't he retire from music a few years ago? Was it after Musicology?

Now that I think about it, I got his Musicology CD for free at his concert.

Didn't he, or somebody, do that same thing once before - put a free copy of his new CD in a British newspaper? Like everyone who gets the newspaper will actually WANT a Prince CD? What an ego! If he puts it in the Washington Post, someone here is welcome to my copy.

And what's iTunes and that they won't give him an advance? Isn't iTuned all about distribution? They're not a record company. Does anyone who sells his CDs through a distributor get an advance?

It must be nice to be wealthy. You can say nutty things and people will notice.

Hey, I even go further than Prince. Not only do I not allow my music on youtube and iTunes, I don't release it to anyone anywhere ever. period. Once I changed to that policy, I've had zero problems with piracy and no non-productive conversations with entities about non-existant advances. Life is good .

Yeah, exactly. And he was actually one of the early champions of using the Internet for marketing and distribution... so he's a mite full of it. Guess he changed his tune once he found out the Internet wasn't going to make him richer.

Maybe he just did not like iTunes at all. I've never purchased a song from iTunes. IIRC, Apple gets 35% of the sale, and the artist gets 15% at best. I think online distribution is great, BTW, but I doubt I'll ever buy a song via iTunes. Of course I'm in a minority, and the iPod and iTunes in large part made Apple what it is today.

He should have a meeting of the egos with Steve Jobs, and develop the iPrince :D

Yeah, but it's likely to backfire. If people think he's a desperate nut job, it's not going to help him sell music. I don't believe the old adage that any publicity is good publicity.

Isn't 15% much better than what artists get from the record companies for a CD release? You'd think he would rather have 15% from iTunes than 5% from normal CD distribution.

So he will sell his CD to Walmart. Some kids will pick it up, rip it ,and upload it up to a "sharing" website instead !

Dan

If they even care...

There's a reason why labels fall all over themselves trying to get airplay. If no one remembers who you were and no one ever hears your music, you're a tree falling in the forest with no one around to hear...

... that may work out for Bookumdano2 but... ;)

[You know, until I had to look up to spell that correctly, I had always thought it was Bookamundo... :D How on earth did I ever learn to read?]

I've done much better than 15%.

Bummer. I thought I was more well-known around here. I'm the guy who managed to get Craig on the phone a few years ago where Craig then shared with me that he had to get off the phone.

He plays guitar pretty good for a guy who hardly seems to bother.
;)

Yeah, and I've purchased/ listened to his music and paid to see him perform...

Loved every minute of it.:thu:

I don't think I have any of you other guys/ gals music in my Library... let me check... still checking....

Nope, sorry.;)

His detractors might call him a 'has-been' etc.

However, he once was a 'wuz been'

I dealt with him and "his people" for quite some time when I was in the pro audio business in Minneapolis. I designed, wired and installed the 24 package that he used in his rehearsal warehouse for developing much of the Purple Rain project. I have to say that he is incredibly talented and incredibly "different". When I was trying to train him in on the system I couldn't get a peep out of him. Of course, he had so much experience with the type of equipment that I installed that he could have probably better taught me, but I couldn't even get a comment on the signal flow chart or patch bay legend. He seemed very abusive to some of the people who worked directly for him (I sat in on a few rehearsals and witnessed some of it). He DOES know how to get a PR notice (good or bad) though, and I suspect this may be one of those cases.

I bought Purple Rain a couple times (tape and CD). I also think he's a great performer.

Just because he's in my music library doesn't mean the internet is over. :p

And I do think he's completely lost his mind. ;)
