  1. The UPS truck made it here today with my new toy. I found it in the clearance section at Guitarfetish. It was discounted for some dents under the finish plus everything is on sale so it was a good price. The dents aren’t so noticeable unless the light reflects a certain way so who cares.  I really wanted this color so I grabbed it as soon as I saw it.People seem to. Like the pickups and it seems quite playable, although I know nothing about Jazzmaster types.. The strings are not impressive but that’s expected. Any recommendations for good strings? 10’s , 11’s or ?  D’Addario nickel wound 10’s are my go to strings.

With action like that at the 12th, and any lower, it buzzes everywhere... tells me there's a wonky fret somewhere in the 15-22 mark.

If you don’t have the proper tool, the edge of a credit card placed over 3 frets will rock on a high fret .A quick way to check

High and low E string both contact rear of bridge like this and tailpiece is already not " decked".

When I ran the serial # she was made in 2019 on a Friday 1669222941785151298594.thumb.jpg.11fbb4426b050e7f661b6a2cf2b0360a.jpg1669222941785151298594.thumb.jpg.11fbb4426b050e7f661b6a2cf2b0360a.jpg

Out of curiosity do you have any idea what the relief is? All you need to check is a capo and a feeler gauge.” This article is from Fender but it’s the same procedure

I've been wondering about putting a set of those in a Strat - have a MIJ body & neck that I got from Lubes/Ben in a trade abut 15 years ago, and still haven't done anything with.

They are loud and fatter . I like them but also glad to have a more traditional sounding Tele

Briefly, I want to split my signal chain to a/b various pedals. Do I need 2 ABY pedals? Just a merge after the split? Will I have grounding issues? (none straight through)

The future of toan is at stake. Thanks.

I’ve split the signal with one a/b and used both inputs on my amp (fender) . When both are used there is no difference between them.

The new mythbusters.....I had sent several guitar 'myths' in to the lads years ago, but nothing....

the greatest truth I learned here [actually, I pretty much already knew by then] "Tone is in the fingers"

As guitarists, we 'buy in' to all the hoopla because it gives us something to argue about. But most of it is opinion, smoke and earwax. To be fair, for different reasons, I own plenty of guitars [appearance, weight, neck feel, body feel] and amps [weight, wattage, speaker size, features] but ultimately each is a guitar and an amp, nothing more. There is no magic; a second rectifier isn't suddenly going to make me sound like Satch, and my LP Custom doesn't make me play like Di Meola.:cool3:

But it’s much easier to blame my gear  than admit it’s me.

I have pickups sitting that I have had for a couple years, one for my cheap-o tele copy, [a Fralin Bridge], and a pair of gold Filtertrons for my big 'custom' [read: oft modified] jazz box....and I still have not installed them...because the more I work the instruments, the more I realize that the specific tone that those replacement pick-ups will provide are really not 'better' than what I can coax out of the existing configuration, although the Fralin will be less 'noisy'.

Be careful, you’re going to challenge some long standing myths

  8. A couple years ago I put together this partscaster.  It was nice but not quite there.

I’ve since added a black sparkle pickgaurd and now a pair of GFS Alnico FatBody pickups with oversized pole pieces. I love them ,it’s like a telecaster on steroids. It gets chimey in the middle position with a solid state amp, which I like and fatter on the bridge. The neck is more Strat like and articulate.  658F8B83-422E-49F7-8494-31C73CC7F11A.thumb.jpeg.607419e1209d05208735e8fbc1fab257.jpeg

  9. It really looks good except for those idiotic screw holes. I’m sure you know a way to make even those less noticeable.

As for the year 1996 would make me even happier because it makes the condition even better. A good find. Mrs. Penguin has a good eye and knows you well

Greetings~ Could you by any chance steer me towards a 4-way schematic 3-SC Strat scheme to yield me 1 thru 4: Bridge, Brdg & Mid, Brdg & Neck, then solo Neck..?
& I want to avoid any push/pull or Blender,,, Just a straight up 1 Vol, 1 Tone & the above 4way sounds.. thnx!!"

So did you ever get this resolved?

  11. I’ve noticed that after listening to a particular guitarist and then playing that the tone I just heard says in my head and my playing somehow moves in that direction. No , I don’t nail the sound but there is an influence without any changes to the gear.. So it that sense the biggest part of the sound is me. Also tho, this takes the fun out of that new set of pickups I was about to order. Maybe, just maybe it’s not the pickups that are  lacking

I did fall victim to that trap with my ex

We were at a music shop and there was an acoustic 12 string on sale. I always wanted one , this one looked like a good deal so I asked her what she thought. She said it had a nice sound and looked nice. Then the trap, I asked if we had enough money that I could buy it . She told me to go ahead and buy it if I wanted it so of course I did. Boy was she mad. She thought I would do the opposite of whatever she said so her yes really meant no. Fortunately her brother was with and pointed out that she did agree and really had no reason to be mad because I did after all ask her, He suggested that many an honest answer instead of playing a game would work out better for her.   No wonder she’s an ex
