but you will be hungry again in an hour...come by and hang out, I'm going to grill up some Andouille sausage...plenty to go around, got a spare room you can crash in...

Sounds good but it’s a long drive. Even with the difference in time zones I won’t be able to make it maybe next year

I did not know there were generic Jazzmaster copies available. I've always kind of wanted one because they look comfortable to play and the springy easy action vibrato tailpiece. Even the Squier versions seem to command a premium versus a typical Strat or Tele.

Actually it is very comfortable to play. This one doesn’t have the rhythm circuit like Fender uses but for what I do it’s just fine .
I really like the pickups, especially with some reverb.

I checked all the frets with a 3 fret covering strait edge. I didn't find anything out of the ordinary.

Factory spec for relief I believe is 10 thou. She buzzes lots if I take it lower than 75 thou

I gave up diagnosing it myself and took it to a local custom guitar builder.

He says the neck has a pretty bad " twist" in it in the opposite direction the truss rod works.

The high E side of the neck ( running from body towards headstock) gets closer to the player ( when guitar is in playing position) while the low E side of the neck gets further away.

    A proper setup isn't possible.

Now to see if they will take it back.

    $1500 for a wall hanger.

Ouch ! not good news at all
I hope you can get some kind of warranty/return

actually, gardo. if you are going to use the whammy, I would be more inclined to get a roller bridge; my 'preference' for the Mustang bridge [still a better option than the JM bridge, IMHO] was for that client who was not a whammy user.

    Just something to consider.....:cool3:

Actually I forgot exactly what I ordered. It’s a different style of Jazzmaster/ Jag rocking bridge .

there are several potential solutions, like bp's putting shrink tube on the insert shaft. I know others who 'crimp' the inside 'grip' end...this style of whammy is used on many different guitars [Eastwood California Rebel, for instance], so I'm certain many different solutions have been tried.

While the strings were off I did force a small socket over the grip end to tighten it, seems to be gripping okay but rattled at the top . Laugh if you want but a piece of scotch tape stopped the rattle at least for now .3FF2260D-1ADB-4993-8344-11B9090FB8CA.thumb.jpeg.564582a085074314407bbf70753e2937.jpeg

I have been searching for this ever since we started talking about the JM trem.... [I saw this a year and a half ago, and filed it mentally if my repair work came up against one]. Then I forgot where I saw it....bugged me for days... FOUND IT!

    https://guitarbomb.com/2021/04/12/how-to-set-up-your-jazzmaster-trem/

Wish that I knew you were searching for it

I saved it to my favorites about a week ago knowing that I would be setting one up soon.
    Good tech article

I have the SX/Rondo version of the that guitar, called the "Liquid" or some nonsense like that. Mine has actual P90 copies, that make it TWANG with the best of them. The bridge was the nightmare component. A rattle trap, designed to make it sound more sitar-ish, then guitar. Took some time hunting down something that worked, but I did, and love it for that surf vibe. Add LOTS of verb and tremolo, and off you go, on a 60's trip without the headache afterwards!

That big screw IS for tension on the tailpiece. And I find that after LOTS of adjusting, 10's stay in tune real well. As for arm swing/popping out, I use a bit of shrink wrap on the threaded ends of the arm. Works. For the most part! And me being me, added a 4 way pickup selector switch for N, N+B series, N+B Parallel, B.

That is a very surfy looking guitar and now that you got it sorted out would be fun

This Jazzmaster clone was playable when it arrived, after tuning of course. I didn’t realize how for off it was until I started to set it up. Basically everything was off except the intonation. I did remove the trem and tightened up the slotted nut type piece that holds the trem arm. I did this by finding a small socket that was a snug fit and pushing over the slotted end to tighten in up because it had a rattle.  daddymack suggested a Mustang bridge and that may happen if it gives me problems.
you mentioned reverb and tremolo  Tremolo is probably the coolest effect that I seldom use. I may just have dig it out .

First, ask her what she wants for xmas...trust me on this one!

    Well there were conditions applied

we are just finishing up staining and sealing some wood work in the backyard and I’m also installing some lights.

It’s the kind of asking that only has one answer, “I’ll be glad to “

HNGD!!! [finally...I was getting full on the popcorn...sm-rotfl]

Although I have never been into 'off-set' bodies, that looks like a cool axe! :thu: The parchment/aged switch tip and knobs is an interesting touch:cool3:

How do the p-ups sound? Do you get that 'Jazzmaster' tone?

    Two-point trem?

.010s should be nice and fat sounding on there...is that standard Fender JM/Strat/Tele scale [25"]? It looks more like it could be the shorter Jaguar scale [24"] from the rear shot. Might just be lack of 'scale' in that pic.

One of my clients has a Squier version [not the Affinity]....he had me replace the p-ups, the bridge, tuners, pots, switch, string tree...by the time it was done, he should just have bought the Fender.:rolleyes2:

The bridge was the biggest issue, and cost-wise the most expensive single part [he insisted on genuine Fender]; JM bridges have some inherent issues [string 'rattle' etc], and there are better choices on the market, but the customer is always right. I tried to get him to go with the Mustang bridge [which is a simpler and ultimately more reliable design] or a roller type [less string breakage] to no avail. I did put 'vibra-tite' in the saddle adjustment screw threads to stop the rattle-you may want to do that if you get the rattle:wave:].  About the only thing he left was the trem, which he said he wouldn't use anyway.  I think he eventually replaced the neck with a 'mighty mite' several years later. He should have just asked me to build him one....

You were right about using 10’s . I’ve had a sample set of the XS coated strings D’Addario sent me in the toolbox. This guitar is tricky to setup so I wanted some long life strings. I like the feel of them and they sound great on this one. The pickups were a pain to adjust so probably I will be discouraged from constantly tweaking them and just focus on playing.

Once I’m satisfied that everything is just right I’ll go back and use a little loc tote on the saddle screws. I may even use slightly shorter screws

classic style floater....you will likely have issues with the trem arm [like it swinging wildly, not staying in place, pulling out....]

Also the Jazzmaster p-ups are not P-90s....very different voice/character. Some people hate it, some people love it....

Like I said , I don’t know anything about them so I got an inexpensive one to try it out. The trem is really a simple design . Does the screw adjust the spring tension?

I never had a Jazzmaster in my hands before so this is all new to me. I did play a Jaguar once but just didn’t like the short scale.,this one is 25.5” It’s bright sounding with the 9’s it came with, I was even thinking about pure nickel 11’s maybe the 10’s will be enough.. As for the trem .here’s a pic maybe you can tell me what it is .423E8D5F-5582-41B1-A679-1C9C0C60309A.thumb.jpeg.8b66f02c5d4985d92d6801712f697f68.jpeg

This is the only guitar I’ve had with P 90’s so it’s hard to rate them but the reviews seem good.
I keep buying telecasters so this time I wanted something different. Of course I already have a Strat that rarely gets played so time will tell if I bond with it
