  1. Anyone I know could tell you that a vintage car is worth more than a new one, a fully-functional colonial estate is worth more than a new home, and a vintage guitar is probably worth more than a new one. I dunno what company you keep. Add to that, there are all kinds of television shows that tell you about the value of vintage items. They're mentioned here constantly. It's not exactly a secret anymore. So, you're telling me that any person you know would dive right into anything that someone who makes money from reselling used products says about an item's value? You're REALLY telling me some funny things about the people you like to keep the company of. Their reputation didn't go anywhere except for with this forum, because that dimwitted seller still thinks the guitars he handed over for free are worth absolutely nothing. Are you a lawyer by any chance? You really have a knack for skirting around the point. " I dunno what company you keep...You're REALLY telling me some funny things about the people you like to keep the company of." What does this have to do with anything? The vast majority of people outside small groups such as this forum would have no idea that a 50 yr old, beat up guitar would be worth anything. A lot of people I know are surprised when i mention that old guitars are worth a lot of money... oh but wait, i suppose this says something negative about me and the company I keep because they dont obsess over things like guitars!
  2. If he didn't give a rat's ass, why did he take it in to get it appraised? Give me a break. Easy, "I wonder if i can get anything for this old guitar? Who would know if its worth anything? A guitar shop would have a better idea than a pawn shop, ill take it there and if it isnt worth anything then ill just get rid of it, {censored} it." Everyone is getting upset about something that, A, has zero effect on them, and B, is only made possible by someone's dimwitted approach to a situation. A new chump is born every day, and eventually it becomes hard to feel bad for them, especially when they're THIS outlandishly dimwitted. If this guy approaches everything in life this way, he must have given his credit card away to Nigerian scammers over and over, fall for every commercial on TV, and have a computer riddled with software that claims he "has a virus!" and must purchase a specific product to fix it. I'm condoning nothing of this, it's just hard to feel bad for someone who gives things away to someone who makes a living off shorting people. If you dont give a damn about some old guy who got scammed out of an expensive guitar, then that says a lot about you and your "moral compass", and I dont know why you got offended by the moral compass comment in the first place.
  3. Trusting someone that makes a living from giving people a small percentage of an item's worth and reselling it to give me an honest appraisal, and then GIVING them my property based souly on that appraisal, would be my own fault, and is incredibly dumb. Whether or not hes at fault is really a moot point, maybe he didnt give a rats what it was worth - 2 dudes lied to him about the value and scammed him out of a vintage guitar. Whether or not he deserved it is besides the point and doesnt excuse their behaviour at all, which is what everyone is getting up in arms about (rightfully so).
  4. There's a middle ground between "a point" and "assuming {censored}ing everything." If you can't see a point in what I've said, I think you're simply choosing to ignore anything that isn't exactly what you're saying yourself. Or what you're making up in place of what I'm actually saying. When people are arguing over who was at fault regarding a dispute, then someone comes in and proclaims that one side was "{censored}ING STUPID", its not exactly a big stretch to assume that they were in favour of the other side....
  5. When did I say that? At all? I appreciate you being so presumptuous in your giant moral stand here. All I'm saying is that it's no more his fault than anyone else's. Act like an idiot, people will use you. It's the way the world works. He came in EXPECTING a considerable amount. The OP said that in the deleted post. The person came in expecting a decent amount because it was a vintage instrument. Then he asked a SALES PERSON, who's job is to resell things they've bought for next to nothing, how much it was worth. Lemme just take my car in for a trade-in and ask them how much it's worth, or go to hock shop to appraise my wedding band. I'm not saying what the OP did was right, moral, entirely legal, or not at fault. But the seller was STUPID for selling it, and there's no way around that. Who says "what's this worth, sales associate? oh, nothing? throw it away for me?" Excuse me, I assumed you had a point besides stating the obvious.
  6. So, because someone is and "idiot" it makes it OK to take advantage of them? Wow! That is Sad moral compass you possess. . +1 Besides, not everyone knows, or even thinks that old guitars are worth stupid amount of money. Most people think that they just depreciate in value over time like almost everything else.
  7. Yeah Ive found the same thing with my LP studio- and I didnt even like it at first. Its such an awesome, versatile guitar. My explorer is still my big GAS killer tho- every time i look at buying a new guitar, I think to myself "will I like this more than my explorer?". The answer is always the same.
  8. They have Spike, they have. A shade of pink anyway: Not quite what i was thinking, but I like it!
  9. This is were the story gets even better he owns a one person company that paints addresses on the curb in front of your home for like $15 bucks lol wat At the height of my GAS i was buying a new guitar whenever I could afford it. At first I was getting ones i wanted, then it soon became a habit. Im past that now as im pretty happy with the gear I have (plus some stuff doesnt get played at all, which is a damn shame). I still got my eye out for the next one tho, i just feel the urge to get it
  10. On our move from Ohio to Phoenix, we drove through Tennessee. Stopped for the night dead tired, woke up the next day to find that some ass wipe had stolen our moving truck. Everything we owned, including the proof we owned it was in that truck. To this day I hate that state. We couldn't even get the cops to come make a report, and when they finally showed up, they didn't share the report with the Nashville police 20 miles away. WE traced the truck down parked outside an auction house a month later. The {censored}s even sold the battery out of the truck. Never saw any of it ever again. Think of it, everything you own, boxed, labeled and ready to roll. Thats {censored}ing terrible. Also, im scared of moving house now
  11. I would go make a sandwhich so I would have a snack to munch on while I watched them bleed out. Quoted for awesome Oh yeah and I dont steal {censored} either.
  12. Nice tuner, i didnt even know there was a TU-3 I dont know why people like to bitch about Boss tuners, Ive seen heaps of pros use them such as Les Paul, Dave Grohl, Jim Root and the guitarist from Paramore... Josh(?) Farro... I mean {censored}, if its good enough for them...
  13. I thought Jack White came across as pretty cool. I can really relate to his "gotta struggle with it" attitude. That being said i dont really like any of this music
  14. I don't know why, but these three Gibsons have been catching my eye lately. Especially the RD reissues (special run for gibson Japan) Oh, and this: I dunno, I like the Donald... I like the donald too, its good for a I like those RD re-issues, but i cant:facepalm: justify getting one as I already have a Firebird studio and 2 explorers and my unrequited GAS
  15. Music is my main thing... all of my friends and family know that music means more to me than anything (except, ofcourse, my girlfriend... "Awwwwww!"). But ever since I picked up a guitar some years ago, I have enjoyed every second of playing it. Really? Cause I know I felt like smashing the {censored} out of my acoustic more than a few times when I was learning
  16. no... wish it was! I spend a lot of my time illustrating. thats some cool stuff there btw, great use of colours
  17. Its a BIG part of my life now, but still not the biggest. Drawing had always been a huge part of my life- my thing but I gave it up after I started doing 3d work. I now am lucky enough to do 3d for work, so I spend most of my free time playing guitar So id say its the second biggest.
  18. Ive found picking towards the neck pup helps a great deal. Some guitars do it better than others, Im not sure why I know that God kills a kitten everytime I mention this guitar, but here it goes- I recently bought a Hello Kitty strat and found that I have complete control over pinch harmonics, which is weird cause ive always struggled with them. I thought to myself- i guess all that practice has paid off and ive finally got it! So i pick up my explorer and.... you fail, 30% ... I tried it on 2 explorers actually, one with 11s and one with 10s and couldnt do them as good or as often, although it handled natural harmonics brilliantly The HK strat has a very bright pup (sounds like a fender single coil really) so maybe this has something to do with it? Try some different EQ settings... Or maybe its because it doesnt have a neck pup, or the scale length or something? F'd if i know So in short: practice, adjust EQ, or get a Hello Kitty Strat
  19. Have you considered a JC-120? Takes pedals like nobodys business... NOBODY'S!
  20. Im of the opinion that wood doesnt need to be babied, and if you hand oil doesnt cut it- then put some kind of other oil on it IMHO I have this ancient cutlery with rosewood handles, and theyve been through all kinds of hell and back- sitting underwater in sinks in grease and grime, through dishwashers using caustic washing powder, just years and years of crap and once you clean and dry them they look brand new...
  21. Im not sure people would want to buy a high end guitar with my name on it If I had my own guitar making company, Id want to make something Id be proud of, and also something made locally (Australia) so I guess if you consider Cole Clark or Maton to be "high end", id go for that.
  22. My parents never bought me {censored}, thats why i bought like 10 guitars as soon as i got a good job
  23. People starting threads on HCEG that complain about things that they dont like
