Two octave range, compound radius fretboards,... Forgive my noobishness, but what exactly is a compound radius fretboard?

What exactly is it about strats/superstrats that makes them so appealing to shredders? One would assume that a 24.75" inch scale would be more suited to shredding cause the frets are closer together and the strings are looser, but apparently is isnt... Im definitely no shredder so could someone shed some light on this?

I am currently in love with a cheapo tele copy. I wonder how much happier I'd be with a nice Telecaster. I'll probably never know. So was I (Squier telecustom II), that is until I upgraded my amp from a Roland Cube 30x to a JC-120... the Tele went from being to being noisy and just ewww.... My LP studio however sounded better If I could have only 1 guitar, Id have an explorer no doubt
