Never seen anything like it before.

Moderators daddymack Posted February 16, 2006 Moderators Share Posted February 16, 2006 hmmm, I believe the p-ups are similar to the LP Recording model from the 70s. Interesting...no visible serial number on the headstock....

Interesting...no visible serial number on the headstock.... Actually I believe that those are Melody Maker pickups. Single coils with plastic, Gibson-embossed covers. I have a Melody maker pickup in my 40-year old Epiphone Granada. I also have two of those embossed covers. The low-impedence "Recording" pickups were much larger and wider.I can't imagine what that guitar would sound like, but I would guess more Strat or Tele like than 335-like. Not your typical Gibson for sure!

Members guitarmook
I had one for a while... red, much like that one. Melody Maker pickups, one-piece neck, semi-hollow (like 335s, not hollow like the 330s)... for a while I had the collection of red, thinline gibsons... 330 (p-90s), 320 (melodies), 325 (mini-buckers) and 335 (full-size 'buckers)... the 320 was a pretty mediocre guitar... the pickups weren't well-suited to the hollow-ness, and the pickup switching system wasn't very good, either. My favorite was the 325, but the 335 is such a classic sound, too... the 330, being hollow, gave-up feedback too easy, and I couldn't really play it onstage. Members headpiecepuzzle
Ahh the Norlin years. That is what happens when luthiers take thalydomide. You get these weird, distorted-looking Gibsons with strange growths all over their bodies and flippers.
Members Trader
Sure would like to hear that plugged into a clean amp. Must have like a Tele/335ish tone ?

But that bridge is the wierdest thing I've seen on a Gibson - as well as the control plate. It looks like some of the Fender guys moved over to Gibson after the CBS takeover. Members F-holes
I had a friend who owned a long scale SG type bass that had those very same type pick-ups and control plate. It was from the same time period.
Members houseofcharm
Just when you thought a thread was dead, here's a new 320 owner. Love it as a poor man's 330/335 weirdo. Nice maple neck, thin by the nut and meatier in the 2nd reg. Here's a pal ragging on it just for fun-music man 210, both pu's.
Members headless
Never saw one before. What year is it from? My guess is early 70's.
