Members mguts5150
I love my Strat, but it seems like every time I hear someone playing with one at a bar or club, they either are trying to sound like Stevie Ray Vaughan or it's a white guy with really nice clothes and a very expensive amp that is trying to convince everyone he has a terrible case of the blues. Is there any hope for playing a Strat?
Members Strat87
Most of the bands I play with use guitars other than stratocasters, but I play them exclusively (and we are far from old/ rich/ Stevie Ray Vaughabees). I don't know if its just just the hipster scene of offsets and tele's that makes people go that route? I think like anything they come in cycles. Members Xenoanthropus
I think that's more a function of the player. They wanted to sound like SRV before they bought a Strat. I own a Strat-style guitar, and the strattiest stuff I ever do on it is a few bars of Cliffs of Dover or Layla, but I do that on all my axes. Members Brian Krashpad
I'm pretty sure I don't fall into either of those camps. That said, I'm not much of a Strat guy either. I do always try to have some type of Strat around, because they can do things that Tele's and LP's and other guitars can't.
Members faberbz
When I play my Strat (and I don't play SRV), I'm just trying to convince everyone that my clothes are really nice and that my amp is really expensive.
Members Kevman
Strats can do ANY music type that has a guitar in it.As far as the rich white guy thing...What? I have seen more regular dudes with a strat or copy of a strat banging through a huge variety of musical stylings than any other type of guitar. Sure there are guys that make more money than others and choose to buy strats. I don't even have a real strat myself but there are 5 copies or variations in my room at least. I use them for blues, metal, prog, jazz, surf and just about anything else I can think up.
Members Will Chen
No, the dudes in Iron Maiden all play Strats as does Yngwie Malmsteen, Eric Johnson, Oz Noy, and Ty Tabor (in his early career). None sound remotely like SRV and certainly aren't hacks by any stretch of the imagination.
Members Kap'n
Strats are for Buddy Holly or Robert Quine stuff. Who is this SRV you talk about, and why do people wannabe like her?
Members notjonahbutnoah
Strats are for people who like comfortable, good sounding, well made guitars. Strats are fun to mod also, tryin to make one you've not seen before and when ur done it doesn't even really sound like a strat anymore.... fun times. Currently my strat has the duncan alt 8 humbucker at the bridge and a duncan vintage 54 telecaster rhythm pickup in the middle, and that's it. I'm 23, and poor, and one of my old bands covered the jack by ac dc, closest to blues I've ever played live.

Members bluesway
i funk the HELL out of my strat....i use it exclusively in a funk group and it KILLS the chank sound. (i also used it for years on a fusion jazz gig until i changed over to tele)

Members mguts5150
This isn't a troll whatsoever. I'm just stating my observations. 90% of the time when I see or hear a guy playing a Strat, he's playing the same blues stuff the next guy is. I guess I could've said it differently.
