Members ten56gibby
Never heard of this happening. Was switching out knobs on one of the geetars and heard a crack. Knob still functions, but it will free wheel all the way around. It just doesn't stop at 0 or 10. Kinda feel like a big stoopid.
Members RufusFussbuster
Yesterday, I was lining up the knobs on a guitar I just got. 2 down, 1 stubborn one to go. I did the string under the knob deal, and had to pull good and hard.I ended up with the knob and the shaft from the pot. The previous owner had epoxied the knob on. Wish he would have at least taken the time to line up the numbers. Glad I had a donor laying around. Two tophats and a speed knob FTL.
Members mrbrown49
That sucks. They are definitely not indestructible. I pulled a shaft out once trying to pull a stubborn knob off. EDIT: I see Rufus had a similar issue. I feel slightly less stupid.

Members unworthy
I did that before. Turned out all I did was push the back cover off the pot. I lined it up, pushed the cover back on and bent the tabs over. Has worked just fine ever since. D

Members docjeffrey
Happens all the time. We're talking about a 50 cent part (or less). Of course, you'll have to pay $50 to have it replaced:-) So do it yourself for just $5 and some anxious moments while you place a hot iron inches from your $2000 guitar. Me too - easily done since there is only a little circlip holding the shaft in the switch.

Members Prages
I've broken the shaft on split shaft pots trying to pry the tabs apart to keep knobs on better. Never pulled the shaft completely off with the knob though, or broken one so there are no stops.
