  1. What do you think of your family's whoring out your estate?
  2. I wish the highway 1 strats didn't have the butt-ugly huge headstock. I like the little 60s one better. Other than that, they're nice guitars.
  3. Nope. To me great sounding and great looking are totally independent.
  4. that's an eerie pic...makes you wonder who started the fire... Thanks for narrating the obvious subtext of the photo.
  5. No. When I was a kid I took stuff a couple of times, stuff like a soda from the gas station. Stupid {censored}. Kids are stupid.
  6. I liked it. I also find U2's early "socially relevant" music about the dangerous times of 1970s dublin (what sunday bloody sunday is about) very interesting, and in some strange way I regret being a white kid who's never faced any REAL hardship, because there's nothing romantic to write about! I like all that stuff but, in my mind, that's a whole different film. This one is about these three guys and that was a bit much of a tangent for my taste.
  7. couldn't wait to see it... a bit of a let down to be honest... not nearly enough footage of the 3 of them hanging out together imo That's exactly what I thought. I could have used a lot less U2 history and a lot more fly on the wall of the guys just playing.
  8. SG standard, bought about 10 days ago.
  9. Try picking in different places between the bridge and the fretboard. You can get several totally different pitch harmonics.
  10. Thank you You bet. If you're into modifications or building, mimf is the place to do some reading. There are some really great craftsman there building every musical instrument you would ever want.
  11. What type of buffing compound? This mimf discussion has about all you need to know.
  12. It will go much faster if you use buffing compound. Without any abrasive at all, it will take forever.
  13. what kinda of cycling you do? I've got a roadie, a tri, and an off roadie.... I'm assuming you were talking bicycling right? Off road mostly, nothing all that technical. I'm one of the lucky few in the Los Angeles area to be minutes from some nice mountain trails.
  14. Might i ask where you went to film school? I want to be a cinematographer, as well. I went to RIT in Rochester, NY. I live in LA now and work primarily as a focus puller (at the moment, always moving up!), but also to lesser degrees as a camera operator and cinematographer. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.
  15. Not biggest. Other things I count myself as other than guitarist include (but are not limited to): flyfisherman, hiker, backpacker, camper, shooter, hunter, photographer, filmmaker, cinematographer*, draughtsman, painter, gardener, dog trainer, cyclist, miniature gamer, chess player. *This is both my job and my greatest passion. I feel lucky to be able to count them one and the same.
  16. You just use a wool buffing wheel and the finest buffing compound and go at it. The finish on those is thin and you don't want to burn through, so go slowly and with light pressure.
  17. I remember EVH saying this a while ago. Now we all know that EVH had said some stupid stuff, but what do you guys think about this? Because we all know EVH has made only good life choices... A bare neck should be oiled to protect it against all the crap your hands sweat out. The oil won't hurt the wood but all the dirty, acidic sweat will over time.
  18. Probably this. If you can actually get that for it, then you could buy 2 SG standards on eBay. Almost 3! That is, if you look hard for deals. The SG standard I just bought cost me $700.
  19. tuner locks? I'm assuming if it has a floyd it also has a locking nut, so having locking tuners would be superfluous.
  20. Doesn't "On the Run" on dark side of the moon have a bunch of them?
  21. Strings that are made by hand??? I'll call supreme bullshit on that one. Definitely. There may be more hand work than usual, but nobody's going to convince me that someone wraps wire around wire all day and gets paid when a simple machine can do it. Besides, with something that rely on consistency, I'm not sure I'd want totally handmade strings anyway.
  22. I've never gotten around to trying them, but DR has a couple of Dimebag signatures that are 9-48 and 9-50. I'd like it very much if Ernie Ball could see their way to making something like that for less money. They make a 10-52 set if that helps any.
  23. Sounds plausible to me. One string manufacturer could easily make 15 brands worth of specs, sizes, and materials.
