Members Operator
And maybe a trem? Naturally, I want a Gretsch but it's simply more than I can afford, unfortunately. Filtertrons sound so amazing to me, but I don't really know of any guitars under $1,000 that have them. Any ideas?

Members Operator
Gretsch Electromatic with new pickups? You'd think so, but the Electromatics use a different sized pickup that would require routing if I wanted actual Filtertrons in there.

Members lowbrow
Gretsch Corvette The "magnatrons" are ceramic magnet, slightly overwound, Filtertrons. And the 5120 and 5122 do not need routing to accommodate Filtertrons. Take a look at the installation videos on TV Jones' website.

Not so. Look around the tv jones website. There is a configuration that is specifically intended to fit in HB spots, and I think it even says something about upgrading the electromatics. New electromatic + tv jones comes in just over 1000 last time I checked (and then promptly talked myself out of spending the money).

Members guitarcapo
I didn't know that Rondo had Cool Cat Prestiges in stock! They weren't around for two years! They used to cost $430 and I bought up two. Awesome quality. Great flame. Ebony board with abalone. Roller bridge and Bigsby...And yea both of mine have Gretsch pickups retro fit in there. Sound fantastic. Korean not Chinese....They used to be a SICK deal at $430 but I still would buy one at $550. I've owned high end Gretsch guitars and these Agiles are better. Members tartanphantom
Megatron is a deceptacon transformer... The Corvette has Magnatron pickups... I know you're probably kidding but you're wrong. The Corvette has MEGATRON pickups... It's the ONLY guitar in the Gretsch line with these pickups, and has had them since Gretsch reintroduced the Corvette in late 2005. Essentially, they are virtually identical to the hotter Pre-Fender Filtertrons--which have ceramic magnets and are wound to about 7.5-8K. They even look like standard Filtertrons. Here's the link to the current Corvette specs: http://gretschguitars.com/gear/index.php?product=G5135&cat1=&cat2=&q=&st=1# On the other hand, MAGNATRON pickups are made exclusively by TV Jones... The Magnatron was TV's attempt to emulate the single-coil Dynasonic sound in a humbucking package. Magnatrons do not have adjustable polepieces, but Megatrons do. Here's the link to TV Jones' Magnatron page: http://tvjones.com/pickups/magnatron.html Finally, Magnatrons and Megatrons sound very, very different.:facepalm:right back at ya.
