  1. As stated above, try adjusting your height first. If you're still not happy then yes, a set of retrotrons will get you more jangle. If you wanna spend a little more, the Rose Pickups Day Breaker is very jangly.
  2. IMHO, any set of pickups that cost more than $180 a set. MIC Marshall, Vox, Orange, etc. And most, not all, Gibson products.
  3. Another excellent guitar with a fugly headstock: A not so excellent guitar with a fugly headstock: One some folks think is ugly that I actually like: beat me to it... although i really did like the guitar and the headstock did grow on me...
  4. No way in hell !!! Right now, I got two men in black suits on the way to Concordia to investigate. no way in hell you say? well, you're more than welcome to call my work and check my stats... 785-243-3300 Alstom Power Air Preheater
  5. I'm wondering how many people in this thread have actually run a CNC machine. I ran them for a living about 10 years ago and I can tell you that they sure as {censored} aren't as precise as everyone in here is assuming them to be. My company ripped out the WWII (1940-ish) conomatic screw machines to replace them with Fuji CNC's. They were slower and less precise and sensors and tooling were constantly breaking and that was running off forgings that were already relatively close to tolerance. The cono screw machines were carving raw product from bar steel. We are talking about aerospace and automotive bearings with tolerances within thousandths of an inch. The only upside for our company was that you could train any tom, dick, or harry to run them and the older screw machines were more of a craft. It took a certain type of mechanical person to be able to run them effectively. Anyways I can hear a difference between a Seymour Duncan/Dimarzio and something like a Novak/Fralin/BG. If you can't hear the difference you are tone deaf or kidding yourself. There is a difference. You can paint a Honda red and tell yourself it's a Ferrari but it isn't. you feel my pain brother... the two CNC machines i operate are constantly {censored}ing up... one is a 661 Whitney with a plasma torch, punch ram, and drill... the other is an ESAB burn table with two plasmas and three gas torches, and i fight them both constantly:mad:
  6. Yea, this is his entertainment. I've gotten about a dozen PMs in the last 1/2 hour from people cluing me into this guy. I guess he does this to lots of people. I think the admins have their eye on him. I feel silly that I bit on his {censored}. i ALWAYS bite... every damn time:facepalm:
  7. Damon don't waste your time with this guy. He's a famous troll from OJ & GJ and I have heard he may not be a member here for much longer due to his posting style. gotcha Bryan... i just get irritated with some of the {censored} that goes on around here... especially when someone is trying to tell someone else their business... nothing pisses me off more than someone telling me how to do MY job or telling me how SIMPLE my job is when they haven't a {censored}ing clue how to do it themselves... you're the pickup maker for {censored}sake:facepalm:... next thing you know, this guy will be telling me that he knows more about the 661 Whitney that i run, the only one in existance with a drill i might add, or our stretch former, also the only on in existance... it's just ridiculous to sit there and tell aguy that does something day in and day out for his bread and butter, and does it successfuly, that he DOESN'T know what he's doing or what he's talking about...
  8. Me too, which is why I don't make pickups for a living. I've made many effects pedals, which are much more complicated than pickups (but still pretty simple). No need for me to do something easy just to prove a point to you, especially when there are so many good inexpensive pickups on the market now. It's not worth the effort. it's not to ,prove a point to me buddy, it's to prove a point to you... if it's so simple, then do it... and i do agree that there are plenty of decent inexpensive pickups out there... but they're still not hand wounds...
  9. There is no way hand manufacturing is going to meet the quality & consistency of well engineered & computer controlled, CNC & threading machines. Your going to start seeing pickups of very high quality mass produced & affordable product all over the place soon. Of course there will be some that still swear by the work of the Jedi but it will be a dying religion in the near future. while i agree that CNC is accurate most of the time, it is in no way perfect...
  10. Can you make a good sandwich? Then why don't you do that for a living? :poke: because i have a REAL job... i WORK for a living... 11.5 hours a day. 6 days a week for the better part of the last 9 years... i can operate pretty much any type of metal fabrication equipment... everything from plate rolls to press breaks to CNC plasma machines, did i also mention that i'm a certified welder too... put up or shut up... if you're so confident that winding pups is such an easy task then why don't you buy the materials, wind a couple of sets, and then send them out to various forumites for review?
  11. Right on Eric..Glad to hear it:thu: Damon thanks for the support. :thu: always bud:thu:... i'm trying my damndest to convince a buddy of mine to get some Pure 90's instead of some Gibby P 94's... i think that once he plays The Swamp Ass he'll see the light:D
  12. By the way, I just installed a set of BG Pure 90's in my PRS yesterday. They sound awesome Bryan! not another hummy sized P90 like it, HNPD... i love my Pure 90's:thu:
  13. No, it's what makes for inconsistent output from pickup to pickup. well then, if you are SO informed on the process of pickup building, and it's SO simple... why aren't you doing it for a living? and, why is it that most boutique and sought after pups are hand wound?
  14. You're misinformed about Gibson. Their guitars are made by hand, and the QC still sucks. Hope this helps. Does BG wind pickups by hand? Because it doesn't get more inaccurate than that. and the inaccuracy sir is what gives hand wounds the character...
  15. I've played many different pickups, many of them high quality - certainly of a higher caliber than yours. But here's your chance, rocket scientist. Explain why your pickups are better than GFS, without appeals to anti-Asian prejudice or shots in the dark about where I live. Go! you've OBVIOUSLY never had ANY experience with a BG hand wound then... i'll take Bryan's or Ken's (Rose Pickups) over a TV Jones or Loller or Fralin... you get the idea... and while i've never had a set of GFS pups installed, i do have a good friend here by the name of jelloman that did some work on my LP copy that has BG Pure 90's in it, he has an Epil LP with GFS Mean 90's, why don't you PM him and ask his thoughts on it as he has first hand experience, i'll let him elaborate if he chooses to do so... it's basic common sense in the manufacturing process... when you mass produce ANYTHING, when ANYTHING is made on an assembly line or from off the shelf stock parts there is simply NO way to keep the QC as tight as someone that makes something by hand and pays attention to EVERY detail... the almighty Gibson and Fender are perfect examples of this... do you really think that an off the shelf "big name" guitar is going to come close to the quality of one of Jim Soloway's or Atrox's builds? that's why Gibby and Fender quality now days is no better than most imports that cost 1./3 the price... because they are MASS PRODUCED, people just pay top dollar for the name... now, i am in no way bashing or down talking GFS pups, i own plenty of GFS stuff as far as electronics and hardware go. there are some GFS model pups that i'm quite interested in and plan to give a whirl when the time comes... i would, in fact, take a GFS over MOST Duncan and Dimarzio pups and over stock Gibby or Fenders... but to say that they are better than a BG is absurd, comparable maybe, but not better... and to badger Bryan about his "rocket scientology" on a public forum is just total douche baggery sir... Bryan owns and operates a business, that's hoe HE makes a living... and the fact that he doesn't run off at the mouth and will even reccomend products other than his own speaks quite highly of his character...
  16. {censored}!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EG was just pointing out the fact that if the OP had the deniro to drop on a Deus he should at least do it the justice of installing pups that are ALSO boutique... nobody said GFS pups were junk, but we all know that they are NOT BG's, Lollars, Fralins, TV Jonses, etc... i've got Mighty Mites in my Cort X-5 and love them, wouldn't change a thing... it's kind of like dropping $800,000 on a Bentley and puting spinner hub caps from pep boys on it...
  17. I'm having a tech put these in. Since the Duesenberg is a semi hollow and you say you are having good luck with this setup I might look into this. Were do I buy the electronics your talking about above? Sorry I don't know much about the pots and other electronics! get CTS audio taper pots from all parts...
  18. I was asking for your clips that demonstrate that in your experience the Rose pickups are better than the GFS equivalent? I search everywhere looking for da Diceman using a GFS P90.......maybe you can link me? i don't have any GFS P 90's, i have BG Pure 90's:poke:... i'm going by what i've heard with my ears and what others who have experience with both have said... maybe much better was the wrong choice of words, but, Ken is a friend of mine and i do know that he runs a tight ship. he doesn't just get boxes in and then ship them out, he physically touches every pickup that comes into his shop... of course, he's nowhere near as big of a company as Jay... i had a set of GFS Mean 90's (never installed them) and sold them to get the BG's... although, jelloman did just drop a set of Mean 90's in his Epi LP and says they are great, nothing like a BG Pure 90, but great... i have nothing against GFS products. i have GFS electronics in two of my guitars, a GFS pedal tuner that i absolutely love, GFS bridges on two of my guitars, and GFS power supplies for my pedal board. the only thing that i will flat ass refuse to buy from Jay is strings, the Xaviere strings are utter trash... as a matter of fact, i'm quite interested in the Retrotron pups, but bottom line, if Ken from Rose ever offers that style... i'll buy from him.
  19. And you have clips and a lot of building experience to demonstrate this? Every time I've been to that site they never have any stock There are many semi pro builders on this site that know that GFS single coils are among the best of the middle ground of aftremarket pickups available, and they hang very well with some DiMs, Duncans. Their Retrotrons are also a superb replacement pickups, and GFS best stuff is only aced by the boutique makers, BG etc. But if you have suitable experience and clips to demonstrate your obvious knowledge then I will be very happy to listen That's pretty much what I read and I didn't see any insult in there either, ubless you maybe blinked in an insulting way when you typed? you didn't look very damn hard then, there is an entire sound clip section on the Rose site... and while you're at it, search you tube for Rose Pickups and New Dawn guitars... Ken has a few videos up, one being of his prototype with his hand wound p 90's in it...
  20. while i may not agree with EG on the "get what you pay for" bit, he did just offer his opinion and was counter posted with a somewhat insulting opinion from a mod. now, i try to get along with everyone... but, the guys from the OMG thread (EG, zemmy, Rose Pickups Ken, silverring233, and jelloman in real life) are my friends. they are my friends here, and they are my friends in real life. i talk to the five i mentioned on the phone, a couple of them on a weekly basis. when someone insults someone i consider a friend, well, it really chaps my ass... that's the way we all are, so naturally we are going to defend one another... that's what friends do... to the OP, go ahead and try the GFS pups, but i don't think you'll gain anything... another alternative would be Rose Pickups. they are a tad more affordable than BG's and much better than GFS...
