Members Faber
I have a set of Duncan 59s in one guitar and had a set of Seth Lowers in another - I think I perfer the Lowers but both set sounded awesome.

Members bernardo gui
I was raised playing Teles & Strats. (25 years) Lately I've been playing humbucking styled guitars. Did ALOT of research on PAF styled pickups. Tried alot of different PAF pickups in my guitars. Here's what works for me: 1. Gibson Classic 57 -neck 2. Gibson Classic 57 Plus - bridge THIS COMBINATION WORKS.....BIGTIME !

Members Norcal_GIT_r
Wow..not one person chose an actual PAF.Does this tell me most people have never played a real PAF or that people do not like the sound of a real PAF?
Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted December 4, 2010 Moderators Share Posted December 4, 2010 Wyatt, I've heard lots of plaudits for the Tom Holmes, but I'm not sure any pickups is sonically worth that much, however what dyou reckon comes as close to those as possible....that you've heard? Members Norcal_GIT_r
PAFs were made into the 70s and came in other guitars than just Les Pauls. There's plenty out there to played and owned.

Members Norcal_GIT_r
Yup, the Shaw RI's were nice and can still be had at a fairly affordable cost.

I know it's probably and unfair question, but I know you're a very straight guy, so where do you see your own buckers compared to say original PAFs, Tom Holmes and Tim Shaw? As I've said before, your BG Buckers were the nicest sounding bucker I'd ever fitted in a guitar I owned Your unpotted Lizards would be the closest? Thanks I'm glad you're really liking those BGBs. Sound wise I think my Lizards are very close. My BGBs are like T-Tops.Construction wise my PAF styled pickups do not use the same materials as the original PAFS. I just try to capture the sound. There's other companies that reproduce the whole package.

Most companies use plastic now. I do you use maple spacers in all of my humbuckers.I doubt they effect the tone though.

Members GAS Man
Of the ones I've used (Duncan '59, DiMarzio Virtual PAF, Gibson 490, all BBs, 57s) I like the BB1 & BB2 combo. I've been sitting on a set of SLs for a few years now, just changed my mind about putting them in my '83 LP and haven't decided on another worthy candidate yet. The other PAF I really want to try and hear great things about is the Duncan Antiquities.
