Decided on the Epiphone Casino

Well I tried out a few semi-hollow and hollow body guitars and decided that the best guitar in my price range is the Casino. The Dot was a little too heavy for me. Didn't really like the looks of the Classic Vibe Thinline Tele. Gretsch Electromatic was a tad expensive. I didn't feel the Ibanez AF85 because it didn't stay in tune and I didn't dig the brown sunburst of the AF75.

Put Casino on layaway and was able to use the 15% coupon to take off 90 dollars. Cherry red model. Really love the look of the red wood. Love how light the guitar is. I'd made a mention of changing out a P-90 for a humbucker but that's not necessary. The P-90 with that hollow body has just a screaming tone in the bridge.

Will get pictures once guitar is paid off.

You'll love it.

I've had the Dot (just didn't do it for me) and I have the CV Thinline. I actually bought the Thinline because I like my Casino so much and wanted something Fender-ish to go with it. I like my Casino a lot more. The P90s just sound amazing (especially with fuzz).

You'll dig the Casino a lot.

You know I've not been a big fan of P-90's on other guitars but with the Casino, it just sounds unreal.

I don't like the Asian guitars carrying an American name and I don't have HCEG money to be throwing around so. I buy mostly used stuff. I picked this one up for $450 and find it a lot better sounding, playing and I like the look but YMMV.

Gibson ES-330. At the time it was the same as the Casino, but they're less desirable because they don't have The Beatles connection. Very nice guitar for short money. Of course on HCEG the trend is towards newer Asian guitars. I prefer to pay less for an older American made instrument but YMMV.

I think you got a great price on it. I'm not sure that is a typical price for an ES-330 though. I kinda doubt it, so congrats on a great score. I'm a big fan of buying used. I've bought 3 new guitars in my life, and only 1 was a keeper. None of my amps were bought new.

This is a pretty ludicrous post. While you may have gotten a good deal, and I congratulate you for that, old 330s tend to go for roughly $3000 or more. It's not even worth comparison, given that almost no one can get a deal like that. The fact is that, for most people, a MIK/MIC Casino is the most accessible option and often comes with very pleasing results. Your milage may have varied; indeed the triumphant attitude says it all.

I seriously doubt that a vintage ES-330 is "less desireable" than a Chinese Casino.

You mean, "the affordable guitar manufacturing trend is towards Asia."

You haven't seen ES-330 prices lately, have you?

OP: congrats -- Casinos are great guitars!

All I know is you guys always {censored} on my threads when I post this but in the past year I have scored a 49 Deluxe for $450 (ebay), a 68 Les Paul Custom for $369 (ebay), a 67 Gretsch for $400 (ebay) and a 64 Mustang for $100 something (pawn shop). I could keep the list going but there is no point.

There are PLENTY of deals out there for folks that wait. Sure, maybe you need to do a little work on it or have a guitar with a repair or a changed part or two but IMHO that makes more sense then buying out of the MF catalog.

Honestly, keep your eyes open and keep saving. Then you'll have the cash to grab the cool deals when they come up.

I never thought I would own an original Mosrite but I ended up being able to get one because I saved and waited.

A lot of us don't have $1000 to spend on a new guitar so we seek out guitars in unconventional places - estate sales, tag sales, auctions, etc.... Just throwing ideas out there for the other folks without HCEG type of funds.

You seem to have found some amazing deals. I believe, however, that those are the exception, not the rule.

In the future, please don't include me in your generalizations regarding HCEG members, their attitudes, or their finances. Thanks. :)

yep dude, if your heart is set on the Casino, get the Casino. if you don't, you'll be kickin' your own ass for it later:lol:

I'm taking this advice. I will NOT settle for something just because of price. Have done that too many times.
